Grammatical Rule

Order of Adjectives

Adjectives decribe a noun or a pronoun. It provides further information about a noun,


indicating things like size, shape, color and more.

When there are two or more adjectives that are from the same group, the word
and is placed between the two adjectives:

Examples:

1. The house is green and green.

2. The library hhas old and new books.

When there are three or more adjectives from the same adjective group, place a
comma between each of the coordinate adjectives.

Examples:

1. We live in the big green, white and red house at the end of the street.

Adjectives denoting attrributes usually occur in a specific order. The adjective


order in English is:

1. Quantity or number

2. Quality or opinion

3. Size

4. Age

5. Shape

6. Color

7. Proper adjective (nationality, place of origin or material)

8. Purpose or qualifier

1. A printed picture will be pasted on the board and they are to describe it using the
jumbled printed words which will also be printed in the board.
2. The learners will identify the sequence of the adjectives.
3. Their answers will be evaluated and checked.
4. After the explanation of the lesson, another activity will be presented.
5. The activity will reinforce their first activity.
6. This time, they will form their own sentences with the help of another sets of pictures.
