Learning Comunity Foundation or in Indonesian called Yayasan Komunitas Belajar /
Yakobi has set a challenge to make our region to be English speaking friendly. I
join them as volunteer more than a year ago and contributed in some of their
projects.

The aspect that I contributed is mainly about Education focused on English

teaching, self confidence, and character building. Mainly in English teaching we
make a weekly programme that we named YES (Yakobi English Society). This is a free
public discussion about everything and for everyone. Take place in the local public
garden for 2 hours. Our main target is actually children in schooling age.
realizing most of our target would not be there willingly, we set the place to be
interisting for them. we bring some practical tools for teaching like flash card,
games, colorful books, novels and sometimes we do some fun games related to
English.

Please:-
a) give up to three practical examples of how you intend to use the knowledge,
skills and connections you will gain from your scholarship. Possible tasks can be
personal and/or professional; and

By being part of Australian Awards Scholarship I am sure I will gain more and
deeper knowledge, skills, and connection between the two countries. This will make
my social project with Yakobi foundation easily to come true.
1. I and Yakobi team are on a mission to make our region friendly to English
speaking tourist. We have a good tourism destination and we realize that we need to
prepare and fix so much aspect so our tourism destination will attract more
tourist. The first step is to make the human resource ready. we are doing it right
now, and having some difficulties that I think it is related to this study.
2. As an English teacher, this study will also help me a lot in my daily routines.
I have tried a lot of methods to make my classroom interisting on the learning
process which I leaned from my workplacement during the youth exchange between
Indonesia and Australia. the result is satisfying but I see more competence to make
it even better.
3. Graduated from the study, I will have more capacity which lead me to have bigger
responsibility. I will use the knowledge, skills and connection to improve the
education in my country. Started from my region, I will do it "socially" with a
free class and professionally on the local university so the knowledge will be
useful for the society.

b) list any possible constraints you think may prevent you from achieving these
tasks.*:

The possible constraints will be the willingness of the subject. It is a challenge
for us to make the society understand that language learning is not that diffcult.
Indonesian society is actually a multi lingual society. Indonesia has more than one
hundred languages, a person in Indonesia at least can talk 2 or 3 languages. But
when talk about English, most of them agree it is not easy for them. I realize that
it is not easy to change someone's mind, we don't have to actually. but we just
have to make them try. I think it is possible somehow, but I just have not find the
correct method.
