needs of others in real life and meaningful ways.

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
A. record their own heart rate (RHR), training heart rate (THR); activate their knowledge
about lifestyle and weight management;
B. realize the importance of keeping track of their own fitness data in relation to improving
personal fitness necessary in influencing others in the society
C. assess and report their own heart rate before performing a physical activity; measure
their waist and give the implication of such measurement on their fitness and well-being

III. Procedure:
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preparation:
 Greetings to the students. o The students greet back to the teacher.

 Introduction of the teacher:

- about himself
- about the his rules about the class:
#1 Do not be noisy
#2 No littering
#3 Do not be late or be absent
 Housekeeping. (The teacher will observe o The students will check if there are any trash
cleanliness and orderliness of the class) scattered around and if their chairs are properly
aligned.
 Checking of the attendance. o Their activity for the day will serve as their
attendance.

 Submission of assignments and requirements. o The class will pass their assignments and
requirements if they have.
B. Review:
The teacher will review his students about
their previous lesson.
C. Motivation:
Before the lesson starts the class will play “HangMan”
 The class will be grouped into 3 or 4 according
to the rows of their class
 The category will be about the lesson. (Heart
Rate, BMI, Waist Circumference)
 The answer will be “Childhood obesity is a real
problem”
 The teacher will explain the mechanics of the
game:
1. Each group or row will have 4 tries. After 4
tries the “HangMan” will be completed.
2. Each of the group will give their letter
alternately until they can guess what the
phrase is.
D. Lesson Proper:
 Before the lesson starts, the teacher will share his
objectives:
A. Record their HR, BMI, and Waist Circumference
B. Realize the importance of tracking their own
fitness level
C. Assess and give the implication of such
measurement on their fitness and well-being.
Activity :
The class will have be having a group activity:

 The class will be grouped by threes.

 Each group will bring out a one whole sheet of paper
and have a representative
 Each representative will do a physical exercise later on
after the discussion and measurement of their HR.
Heart Rate
The teacher will ask the following questions:
 Class, what is heart rate? o Your heart rate, or pulse, is the number of times
your heart beats per minute.

 Class, where can you measure your heart rate? o The best places to find your pulse are the:
wrists, inside of your elbow, side of your neck,
top of the foot
 What is the normal heart rate of adults? o A normal resting heart rate for adults ranges
from 60 to 100 beats per minute.
Did you Know?
A lower heart rate at rest implies more efficient heart function
and better cardiovascular fitness. For example, a well-trained
athlete might have a normal resting heart rate closer to 40
beats per minute.
 Class, How do you measure your heart rate? o Count the number of beats in 15 seconds.
Multiply this number by four to calculate your
 The teacher will show and discuss an example of a HR beats per minute.

4-5 Moderate Activity
6-7 Vigorous Activity
8-9 Very Hard Activity

The class will begin the group activity and proceed to the
ground,
 Each group will bring out 1 whole sheet of paper and
write their names and the HR Log Template.
 The teacher will ask his students to settle down and
listen for the next part of the lesson.

Body Mass Index

 Class, what is the definition of BMI? o Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measurement of a
person’s weight with respect to his or her height.
It is more of an indicator than a direct
measurement of a person’s total body fat.
 How do you compute your BMI? o The formula for BMI is Weight(kg)/Hieght2(m2)
Here’s a BMI Classification:
below 18.5 Underweight
18.5 – 24.9 Normal
25.0 – 29.9 Overweight
30.0 and above Obese

Waist Circumference

 What is waist circumference? o Waist circumference (WC) is an indicator of

health risk associated with excess fat around the
A waist circumference of 102 centimetres (40 inches) or more waist.
in men, or 88 centimetres (35 inches) or more in women, is
associated with health problems such as type 2 diabetes,
heart disease and high blood pressure.

Analysis:
After the class activity, the teacher will ask series of questions:
 What is the importance of measuring heart rate? o Knowledge about your heart rate can help you
monitor your fitness level — and it might even
help you spot developing health problems.
 What is the importance of measuring and interpreting o It expresses the weight-height relationship and
BMI? provides a more accurate measure than body
weight alone.

Application:
Heart Rate Log Template
 Before the class will proceed to the grounds, each o Each group will record their representative’s HR.
group will record their representative’s HR and record
it to the Heart Rate Log Template
 The representatives will do a 5-minute dynamic warm o Each representative will perform the dynamic
up: warm up.
1. Lunge with a Twist
2. Knee to Chest
3. High Kicks
4. Hip Stretch with a Twist
5. Jump Squats
6. Jump Lunges
o Each representative will record their heart rates
 After doing the dynamic warm up, each representative
and record it in Heart Rate Log Template
will go back to their respective groups and go back to
the class room and fill up their HR Log Template.

Body Mass Index

 Each group will compute each individual’s BMI and
write it’s interpretation in the groups 1 whole sheet of
paper.
Waist Circumference
 Each group will measure their waist circumference.

E. Evaluation:
In each group’s papers, they will write about what
they can do to maintain a healthy Heart Rate, BMI,
and Waist Circumference. At least 5 Sentences.
