Lesson: Verbs: used to, be used to, get used to
Date: 17th March

Aims 1-to raise the students’ interest in the lesson by reading a short dialogue and
discussing different aspects of the dialogue, including the use of : used to, be used to, get
used to.
2-to help the students understand how and when to use the verbs: used to, be used
to, get used to
3-to give students practice in using the above mentioned verbs in exercises
4- to give students practice in using the above mentioned verbs in real life
situations.

CONTENTS

Aim 1 (10 minutes) Interaction:T-S,S-S


Activity:The teacher and the students greet eachother. The teacher asks the
students to tell her if they found out what a bagpipe is. The teacher continues with
questions such as: „ In what country do we find the bagpipe (important)?” „Have you
ever seen one?”(on tv, in real life) „Would you like to play the bagpipe?” „Have you ever
heard anyone playing the bagpipe?” Then the teacher asks the students to read the
dialogue and they discuss the new words, if any. The teacher asks the students to look for
the verbs: used to, be used to and get used to in the text and to see what comes after each
verb(short infinitive or gerund)

Aim 2 (13 minutes) Interaction:T-S


Activity: After the students tell the teacher their observations on the verbs, the
teacher starts writing on the blackboard the main ideas of the lesson using examples
given by the students, giving different clarifications, if necessary.

Possible problems: students might find the resemblance of the verbs confusing.

Aim 3 (15 minutes) Interaction:T-S


Activity: The teacher gives the students a worksheet with exercises. The exercises
give the students a chance to practise the newly presented theory.(used to –affirmative,
negative and interogattive; used to +short infinitive, be used to, get used to +gerund)

Language: used in the exercises
Possible problems: students might have difficulties in „losing” the –d from used
to in negative and interrogative or with distinguishing between be used to and get used
to(the process of being used to something) .

Aim 4 (7 minutes) Interaction:T-S,S-S


Activity: The teacher will try to make the students understand why they are
learning these verbs. The students should be aware of the fact that grammatical structures
help them express themselves better. The teacher asks the students to tell her
---a few past habits they had using „used to”
