To bring an inter-disciplinary approach to all students’ activities and to have unified activity clubs involving
students from across all programs, formation of common clubs was planned. As a paradigm shift, for the
first time, in the current academic year, senior students were invited to form clubs as per their interests.
Before the university re-opened after the summer break, nearly 30 proposals were received. Finally
clubbing together similar activities, ten clubs were formed.
Apart from on-the-spot registrations, registrations from all students were accepted through Google doc.
too. Total 1201 responses were received. Each student is eligible to register in maximum of 3 Clubs. Details

REPORT ON CLUBS’ ACTIVITIES
DANCE CLUB
Dance Club conducted two activities in the month of August, first on 17 th and second on 24th
August. Details are mentioned below.
FINBIZ CLUB
FinBiz organised Movie Screening on 31st August, conducted Corporate Lecture on 7th September and
a session on 28th September on topic Wealth to Stock Market. Details are mentioned below:-

There was movie screening in the first event of FinBiz club naming ‘The Big Short’. The movie depicts the
financial crisis of 2007-08 which was screened with the aim of providing financial knowledge to the students.
The movie was followed by the discussion from Professor Saumil Shah, who interacted with the students,
understanding their view point about the crisis and explaining to them various jargons used in the movie.
The students had an interesting time listening to both the speakers and hearing about the concepts of
finance, savings and investments. Speakers shared their ideas and concepts about savings and investments.
An informative interaction session was delivered by Prof. Parag Patel, to explain and clear concepts about
the Stock Markets by explaining the advent and history of the stock markets and the evaluation of the two
main stock exchanges of India, viz. BSE and NSE. 125 students attended the session.
Fine Arts Club organised their first event BEST OUT OF WASTE WITH SOME TWIST AND TURNS on 31st
August at School of Computer Studies. 57 students participated in the event from various programmes of
Ahmedabad University.

FITNESS CLUB
Fitness Club conducted their activities on Sunday mornings at HL Plaza on 28th August and 4th
September. Details are mentioned below:-
Activity-1: Aerobics
Instructor/ Speaker: Miss Divya Armani (Alumnus)
The club commenced with its first session on 28th August at 6:30 in the morning with Aerobics. The activity
started with warm up, cardio exercises, moving on to aerobics and finally ended with 2 rounds of jogging.
More than 200 students participated enthusiastically in this activity.
Second session was conducted by the committee members. Prof. Ankur Gangal, mentor of Fitness Club also
joined the session and participated actively in the session. Even though sessions were held on Sunday
morning, approx. 275 students participated in fun and fitness activities.
LITERARY CLUB
Literary Club conducted Debate Preliminaries on 17th August and Debate Competition on 31st August.

Activity-1: Debate Preliminaries
23 students participated in the activity. Topic of the debate was “Should everyone be considered organ
donors unless they opt out?” Based on Content, Delivery, Body Language and Rebuttal, 12 participants were
selected for next round.
12 participants selected from the debate preliminaries held on 17th August, were divided into 6 pairs, with
6 different topics given to each pair for Round 1. The 6 winners from Round 1, proceeded to Round 2. The
topic for Round 2, given beforehand was: Is technology a hindrance to privacy? Judges selected top 4
candidates to go for Round 3 and winner and runner-up were announced after Round 3.
MUSIC CLUB
Music Club auditions were held on 24th August, 2016 and 31st August, 2016 at BKMIBA Auditorium.
On both days 140 students appeared for the auditions out of a total of 332 registrations. On 24th August, the
auditions were conducted in three different rooms simultaneously and in every room there were two judges.
On 31st August, the auditions were conducted in two rooms.

PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB (SHUTTERBUGS)
Photography Club conducted three activities, visit to Jamalpur Market on 17th August, Photography
session on 24th August and World Wide Instameet 14 by Instagram and AU Shutterbugs on 17th
September. Details are mentioned below:-

The session was filled with tricks and tips for the basics and techniques of photography. Individuals were
provided with information about shutter speed, aperture, exposure, modes of cameras, composition, and
many more.
This event was organized to promote mobile photography and help people come collectively to celebrate
the diversity of food and bring all cultures together; and encourage food from various cultures by organizing
a Cooking Competition & Food Photography Competition. Over 70 students with the love for photography
and cooking participated from various programmes across Ahmedabad University.
THEATRE CLUB
The theatre club of AU, 'RANGKARMI' conducted its first successful workshop on 31st August
2016, Wednesday. There were about 120 members present. The workshop had basic exercises of theatre of
speaking and walking. Groups were formed and were asked to present a situation by themselves in 5-7
minutes. For a start, the students had done a wonderful job and were interested in learning more from
upcoming workshops

QUIZ CLUB
Quiz Club organised quiz competitions on 17th August and 14th September. Details are mentioned
below:-
A Spent (Sports + Entertainment) Quiz with some India centric questions for the occasion of Independence
Day was organized by the quiz club for AU students during the first club event day i.e. 17th August 2016.
There were 15 – 20 teams of 2 members each participating in this event.
Six teams qualified after the prelims and it was a roller coaster ride till the last question of the final round.
There were 25 teams of 2 members each participating in this event, 6 teams qualified after the prelims and
it was a unique and interesting quiz. All the 6 teams went on competing till the last question of the final
round.

Venues: HL Campus, 12 noon to 5pm, SEAS and SCS, 2pm to 5pm.
Blood donation is open for all students, staff and faculty at AU. However Thalassemia Screening is mandatory
and open only for third year or final year students as the case may be.
Overall the response was excellent. In all 331 units of blood were donated.
Out of a total of 1094 target population, 726 screened for Thalassemia. Remaining shall be covered in phase
2 in second semester.
Fourth year Engineering students were covered in March 2016 for Thalassemia Screening.
Many Post Graduate students already screened earlier during their under graduate programmes.
