STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

While contemplating my intensions to pursue MS in Software Engineering at Arizona State University, it

is my pleasure to introduce myself to the admission committee.

At primary school, we had Computer Sciences as a subject where we had just learnt the parts of a computer. My
father being an employee at a private firm, who had access to computers, was very interested in latest
technologies. Computer for me was only a means of entertainment as I found it very exciting to play games and
using paint application. I was dumbfounded to know that games are nothing but programs. It is well known that
inclination to learn is required as a prior condition for brilliance. This fact has formed basis for man's never
ending progress over the ages. Curious to know how to program, I developed a serious interest in Computers.
Since my childhood I was very much interested in the area of Mathematics due to the excitement in solving
problems. I secured 99% marks in Mathematics in 10th and 100% in 10+1+1. I completed 10th examination with
80.4% and 10+2 examination with 95.1% with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as major subjects. With such
an interest in Math and Computers, I decided to pursue my under graduation with Majors in Computer Science &
Engineering. This decision gave me ample opportunity to consolidate my creative energies and harness my
technical aptitude.

I had joined Computer Science in T Institute of Technology (affiliated toy, mn), one of the best universities in
India. My undergraduate program in Computer Science has given me a good grasp of fundamentals through a
well structured curriculum covering various disciplines namely Data Structures, Computer Organization,
Microprocessors, Operating Systems, Principles of Programming Languages, Computer Graphics, Software
Engineering, Design Analysis of Algorithms, Language Processors and Artificial Intelligence. The practical courses
consolidated my theory lessons and exposed me to the domain of application of this knowledge and
programming languages. Through this course structure, I mastered languages like C, C++, JAVA, HTML and SQL
Database Management System. Apart from the curriculum projects, I have developed few application which my
peers made use of. Three of the applications are: Online ‘C’ Compiler, File Archive, Live video broadcasting over
LAN.

Apart from normal course work, I have attended workshops on various technologies and delivered presentations
on ‘Cyborgs’ and ‘WiMax’. I have organized various events and was a part organizing team of STEPCONE, a
prestigious fest of our college. Being the Joint Secretary of Indian Society for Technical Education, I was an
integral part of the organizing crew, where I learnt about management at social level. In a college level
competition, me along with two other students, have done a project to deliver a 3D animated video
demonstrating how various hardware components are assembled using Maya software; won cash prize as well. I
had given voice-over for the video as well. Well appreciated for being an all-rounder.

After my undergraduate study, before joining Y Consultancy Services(TCS), I had undergone training for Java &
MS SQL and completed Oracle Certification for JAVA SE 6 which helped me to accomplish a strong clasp on front
end and back end technologies. My work at Y Consultancy Services as Assistant System Engineer-Trainee helped
me to new things at corporate level. I had undergone training on Java, J2EE and relative business level courses
for a period of three months.

After the training period, I was placed in a project where I learned more and explored the corporate world. My
biggest strength is my flexibility and adaptability to change. Although, I was trained on Java and hold a
certification in Java, I was ready to learn new technology as per my project requirement and held a grip on Ms.
Net and MSBI (MS Business Intelligence) in a very short period; and won accolades for the same. I have played
not only a technical role, but also the role of Business Analyst, where I used to work with my co-workers on
business requirement gathering and create project flows; develop 3D models and explain it to project members
for their better understanding of the whole project flow. During my project association with TCS, I have
conducted events and organized team outings for a group of 500; appreciated for the same for achieving it
without affecting the deliverables.

After working for about 3 years and 5 months in TCS, I took a call to join another world famous multinational
company ‘X’. My thirst for continual learning and yearning for profession growth lead me to this.

I am confident that the knowledge I gained at my undergraduate level and the work which I had done at Y
Consultancy Services & X serves as a base for my career advancement in this field. The yearning to obtain an in-
depth understanding and specialized knowledge in my areas of interest had made me to opt for higher studies.
Extremely eminent faculty, lively academic activity and a graduate program which blends high quality course
work and research opportunities are the factors which motivated me in choosing ‘Arizona State University’. I feel,
I have the ability to work both in a group and individually. With my academics, creative thinking along with desire
for research, I promise that I will surely live up to your expectations. I tender my application to your university
and hope to receive admission.
