Reflection #1
The Bible is a source for knowledge, peace, and understanding in the realm of
Catholicism and Christianity. The fruitful book is a collection of sacred scriptures taken up as
a byproduct of the relationship between God and man - with how the world came to be.
Depending on an individual’s relationship with God, one will have varying views on what the
Bible is for. In hindsight, the purpose of the Bible is for its intended audience to know that it
is God’s way of connecting and speaking to mankind. Through the Bible, God intends to
teach mankind their purpose in this world. Hence the teachings, laws, and divine inspirations
taken up by countless characters in the Bible compliment the idea of God’s ideal way for
On a global scale, not everyone has the same relationship with God. Others might not
even have a relationship with Him. The Bible’s meaning-fullness varies with the depth of
one’s relationship with Him. Professors and researchers may use the Bible to study history of
how the world came to be, as the Bible talks about the coming up of the world from
nothingness. Other researchers may use the Bible to support or even falsify theories. For
example Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution is not supported by what is said in the Bible -
that we did not derive from apes and that ‘God created man in His own image’. Another
reason for why people reach out for the word of God is because it gives readers discernment.
The Bible helps us discern between what is good and bad. This is of importance especially in

society today as people live towards irrational thoughts and action. One’s judgement is often
tainted by emotion and experiences which may go against the ‘will’ of God.
I have been born and raised up into the christian community: my parents are christians
and are firm believers in Christ, my relatives are of christian heritage, I have been baptised,
etc… To compliment this idea, my relationship with God may not be as strong as other
people in my family, but I can truly say that it is significant. The profound reason for why it
is so is due to my knowledge of what the Bible is meant to be for me. As a Christian, I have
surrounded myself with profound questions concerning insights I have from the Bible.
However I question these in a manner not to discern or slander christianity or what the Bible
is saying, but rather how such events or ideas in the Bible relate and manifest with me in real
life.
I have read and finished many books in the Bible through the weekly devotion that I
take up on Sundays. These devotions become my source of soul food as I feel that feeding
one’s soul with prolific message is a healthy and enriching habit for an individual. In
hindsight, the Bible to me has been my scapegoat for problems. In times of trouble i look
towards the Bible for inspiration on what to do. As mentioned earlier, the Bible teaches
mankind how to live with purpose; how to live amidst adversity. The Bible gives me
In the denouement, the Bible plays a vital role in my life as I see it as a bridge way
that affixes my relationship with God. I look to the word of God as my scapegoat from

hardship and sorrow; it teaches me how to live righteously in the eyes of God while at the
same time enlightening how we as people should live a life with purpose.
