United Kingdom genealogy expert Lady Mary Teviot is the special guest speaker at a series of
family history research events hosted by Yarra Plenty Regional Library branches from 26
October until 6 November.
Lady Teviot, who has lectured internationally on family history research for more than a decade,
will share her 35 years’ experience in family history research at the events.
YPRL’s Local and Family History Librarian Liz Pidgeon says the talks will be of particular interest
to people with UK heritage.
“A good percentage of people in the local area have Irish, English or Scottish ancestors in their
family line,” she said.
She has been the President of the UK Federation of Family History Societies since 2001 and has
held other roles in various family history groups.
Lady Teviot also specialises in finding heirs and proving their right to inheritances (probate
research) and appears on the BBC television show Heir Hunters, which airs in Australia on
Foxtel’s Lifestyle Channel.
Lady Teviot was born in Sussex and educated at Avondale College, Hove. In 1965 Lady Teviot
married the Honourable Charles John Kerr, who three years later succeeded his father as Baron
Teviot in the House of Lords
Lady Teviot is back in Australia by popular demand. “The talks are full of useful information for
both experienced researchers, and also people beginning their family history research,” Ms
Pidgeon said.
