2. familiarize with the process of writing precis or abstract;

3. appreciate the value of making precis or abstract text.

B. References - Applied English for Academic Professional Purposes for Senior High School by Shiella D.
Tandoc (p 8-10)

C. Materials - Laptop, TV-Monitor, Speaker, White board marker

know I am not perfect and I fall short everyday of my
life, but I want to take time out to say thank you for your

roof over my head, food on my table and everything I

after reading it you will make 1-2 sentence/s based on
what have you understand in the poem. What do you
think the poem is all about. Any question/s?

- Look at your copy Tala please read the meaning or
precis or abstract.

- Precis or abstract is a short summary of a text read. It is


an exercise in comprehension.

- it is a gist of passage expressed in few words as


possible.

- We know already the meaning of precis or abstract


and in making the abstract we need to follow 3 steps.

- But before that I will give you the 2 styles of


abstract. This is not included to your book so get your
notebook and write the meaning of the 2

-Descriptive abstract- explain the purpose,goal,and


methods or your research. Usually best for shorter
papers.(descriptive qualitative)

-Informative abstract- like a condensed version of your


paper, giving an overview of everything in your
research. Usually best for much longer and technical
research.

- I have here our research in college you can rely the


abstract here. Let us proceed to the steps in making
abstract. What are those Tin?
- read and re-read the original text carefully

- resist urge to argue on critique right away

- try to avoid excessive quotation/s

F. Application

- On page 9 of our book there is a selection you will


start to make your abstract. You will write it in a 1
whole sheet of paper. Make 5-6 sentences in 15
minutes. Is that clear class?
