Update from Your Chief Steward September 2019 - Issue #18

CID Chief Shop Steward Marinos Marinos

TABLE OF CONTENTS
As we enter fall, I’d like to provide the members of the CID Union Shop
on new developments happening with the DC Police Union. Many Update from the Council Page 1
members have inquired about MPD’s new policy which revokes our
member’s police powers after fifteen days in a less than full duty status. Retirement Plaques Page 2
The new policy is not only a serious safety concern for our members,
who are now unarmed, but also a lack of desire to bargain in good faith Calendar Page 2

with our Union. Our current contract allows for the Union Chairman to
file a Class Grievance in matters like these within thirty days. While we
are well outside of that window, I have been told by Chairman Bigelow
that he has been granted an extension to file a class grievance to
oppose this new change in policy. I have urged the Chairman to file the
grievance in a timely manner, as the longer this policy is in place, the
more safety concerns face our membership and their families.

The Chairman has also told the Executive Council that he will be sending
out a survey to the general membership concerning the upcoming
contract negotiations, so please be on the lookout for the upcoming
survey. Also if you are interested in being part of the contract
negotiation team please send an email to the Chairman at
sbigelow@DCPoliceUnion.com.
