PART FIVE

REGULATIONS THAT NEED

HOPE / WISH

Two verbs that mean almost the same are grammatically not the same, '' Hope '' to show
something that might or will happen, '' Wish '' is used to show what is clearly not happening
or will not happen. The word 'hope' can be followed by any tenses. While 'wish' will not be
able to be followed by a present verb or present form. Make sure that you understand the
difference between wish and hope in the following sentences.

- We Hope, that she will call us. (= We don't know whether he will call or not)

- We wish that she could call us. (= He didn't call us)

- We hope that she is called last week. (= We don't know if she called last week)

- We wish that she had called last week, (= She didn't call last week)

Remember that 'wish' is an unreal situation or contradicts the facts.

Present. Unreal condition: IF I was a director, I wourd give you anything.

Present wish: I were a director.
Past unreal condition. IF you have come to my party yesterday, you would have met my
boyfriend.
Past wish: We wish that you had come to my party yesterday.
Note: Under the following rules, note that the word '' that '' doesn't have to be.

In this usage, the phrase "used to" means the same as "would". "Used to" is always in this
