Who? Inuit are nomadic (moved around based in food availability or seasons) live
in subarctic region very North of the St Lawrence River
Where? They lived in igloos and hunted seal, fish, walrus, beluga
When? Political Structure:
They lived in small groups of families and had chiefs
Why?

Algonquin are found just North of the St Lawrence River, they have a
nomadic lifestyle and the division of labour is clear by gender.
Men build Wigwams,(made of bark very easily moved) build canoes, hunt,
fish,
Women look after kids, find fire wood, cook
They move in small groups with a few families

Political Structure: Family →hunting group→Band 100 -200 people →Nation

Iroquois are sedentary (they stay in one place) Build Longhouses and live in
small villages - there could be 2-3 families in one longhouse, then many
longhouses to make a village
They built walls around the villages for protection.
They divided the labour / tasks amongst themselves by gender
Men built homes, walls, boats, hunt, fish
Women look after kids, food, fire wood collection, planting crops, harvesting
Hunt moose, caribou, deer, and fur bearing animals such as beaver pelts,
Politically complex in their organization of people because they are
sedentary.
Political Structure:
family - extended family →clan family from maternal side→
village →nation several villages →several nations = league
Animism: All things have a soul and follow the circle of life so should be treated with
respect.
Migration Theory People were able to walk across the Bering Sea 32,000 yrs ago from Asia
and migrate down/across Canada into U.S. (Indigenous now to this region)
