To create a healthy environment, sustainable construction was the right method for us
to use in a constructive way nowadays. Sustainable construction becomes popular as
integration of planning and management for the economic, social and environment.
The goal of sustainable construction is a development that meets the needs of the
present and reduces the industry impact on the environment. Sustainable construction methods
should:
1) Enhance living, working and leisure environment for individuals and communities.
2) Cause unnecessary waste of energy, water or materials due to short life, poor design,
inefficiency or low standard construction techniques.
3) Create dependence on high impact transport systems with their associated pollution.
4) Use materials from threatened species or environments
In order to reduce this problem of depletion of natural resources, sustainable use
practices are necessary to introduced to the community through education that will provide
awareness and understanding about the importance of environmental protection for future
generations. This is so because the knowledge of environmental care is important to create
awareness at once give birth to individuals who have positive attitudes toward the environment
(Kollmuss & Agyeman, 2002). Formal or informal education is capable of strengthening more
environmental awareness of all ages and hopefully it is able to provide a sense of responsibility
for individuals to become sustainable consumers (Ruhizan & Norzaini, 2005) especially among
the developer. They need to developed our earth with care so the natural resources can use for
the next generation.
Next is, like the other building management function, sustainable management
functions are to specifying project objectives and plans which is include the delineation of
scope, budgeting, scheduling, setting performance requirements, and selecting project
participants through the project documents. Secondly, project management is to maximizing
efficient resource utilization through procurement of labour, material, and equipment according
to the prescribed scheduled and plan. Other than that, implementing various operations through
proper coordination and control of planning, design, estimating, contracting, and construction
in the entire process. Last but not least, developing effective communication and other
mechanisms for resolving conflicts among the various project participant.
There are few examples of top sustainable construction technologies used in sustainable
construction which is:
1) Solar Power
Active solar power is use of functional solar system that absorb the sun radiation
to cater for heating and electricity and reduce the need of use electricity and gas.
Passive solar power is a design that uses the sun’s rays to warm homes through
the strategic placement of windows and the use of heat-absorbing surfaces.
2) Biodegradable materials
Biodegradable materials are one of eco-friendly use in making green
construction. It was traditional methods that use to accumulation of waste
products and toxic chemicals, which are take hundreds of years to degrade. The
use of biodegradable materials for building foundation, walls and insulators are
also part of sustainable construction technologies.
3) Green insulation
Insulators are simply wall filters which do not need made from expensive
materials. It uses from making use of old and used materials to utilizes line wall.
4) Cool roof
Cool roofs are sustainable green design technologies which aim at reflecting
heat and sunlight away. It aids in keeping homes and buildings at the standard
room temperatures by lowering heat absorption and thermal emittance. The
design makes use of reflective paints and special tiles which absorb less heat
and reflect away most of the solar radiation. Cool roofs therefore minimize the
dependence on air conditioning and in turn, reduce energy use which translates
into decreased cumulative greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.
Maybe in the future we can developed various of ideas to create s sustainable construction
management in future so we can keep healthy life for the young generations.
