I am known as Hemanta Giri. I was born and completed my school level, Intermediate level and
bachelor¶s level in Kakarvitta Nepal. But I am UK for my further study. Especially my aim is to complete
master in business administration from recognized university. Moreover, I want to achieve international
degree.

Writing about my past life, I completed my school level from government school with good marks, the
name of school is shree Kakarvitta Higher Secondary School. After careful consideration I decided to
study management because one of my uncles is CEO of Sunrise bank limited, not only I had impressed
with him but also I had very big desire to study about business management and become a successful
manager. I am vey ambitious since my childhood, once I decided to do something I vigorously complete
my goal. When I got admission in Shree Kakarvitta College, during my study I faced one big trouble, I
used be a good cricket player of my college which I have not mentioned here yet. I was selected as a
district level cricket player from cricket tournament held in my college. So, I had to choose between my
study and sport career. My lecturer suggested me to study and quit the cricket, but my colleagues forced
me to become a popular cricket player of the nation. I became confused, weather to choose study or my
cricket career. But I had to decide my self, because my family was with me. Finally, I decided to carry on
my study, because as a management student I didn¶t see my future in cricket. But it was too late, because
my second year exam was coming soon, I didn¶t have time to study well. Eventually, I made one plan
where I mentioned study routine of all subjects, and just read the gist and theme of all books according to
plan. I joined in the exam and succeeded. I got good marks in all subjects. It was the result of my study
plan.

Again, I joined in same college for my further study bachelor¶s in business studies. During my BBS
studies I joined in computer program for two years, I achieved additional skills along with study. I
finished BBS easily within three years period with good percentage.

Simultaneously, I thought to achieve master degree in business management from capital city of Nepal;
Kathmandu. So, I moved in Kathmandu. As soon as I arrived in Kathmandu I got the job in Namaste
Saving & Credit Co-operative Limited as an accountant. I worked there for around 2 years. During my
working period I got the good feedback from my boss. I used to complete all my duties nicely. Next, I got
admission in Shankar Dev College, Kathmandu. I visited all the big places and big hotels of Kathmandu
then I slightly impressed to work in kitchen as a chef. Without any delay, I joined in Shangri-la Tourism
& Hotel Training Centre for chef training. I took for four months training there, at the end I did well in
practical exam among all candidates then I selected as an on-the-job trainee in Hotel Yak and Yeti for

eight months. It was very fun and interesting life while working in a kitchen of Yak & Yeti hotel. I learnt
many more about the foods and how they cook hygienically. I was studying and doing job in a hotel then
one of my friends got visa in UK, then I realized why I am not trying abroad for study to fulfill my aim,
then I decided to study MBA in UK and applied for visa, I succeeded.

Each and every person has some strengths and weaknesses part on their lives. As a person I also have
some strengths and weaknesses part in my life. Person¶s characteristics reflect their quality that may be
good or bad. Good characteristics linked with strengths part and bad characteristics linked with
weaknesses part. We can judge any person in different kind of view. So, I consider my self as a academic
person because I am a student and my goal is to complete Diploma in management studies (DMS) and
Master in business administration (MBA), the reason why, I judged my strengths and weaknesses part my
self on the student point of view. The table below shows some of my Strengths and weaknesses part.

The above figure no.1 describes about my strengths and weaknesses part. Let¶s begin with my personal
strengths, everyone knows that being a hardworking is strength part for any kind of work; weather you we
are on a work or running our own business. Hard worker never be unsuccessful in his/her life. So, it¶s a
very good strength point for me. Second, what ever we do or going for, we should be fully prepared for
upcoming problem whether they may financial or another. I mean if we want to run a business, first we
need capital, without capital we can not run our business. If we run our business thinking capital might be
collect later, it may be impossible to run the business or business may collapsed. So, I mean, we have to
secured enough money for our all the cost education at first. Third, I consider myself little bit intelligent
because first I raveled my intelligence when I chose this course. In addition, I understand the practical
knowledge very quicker than my colleagues and getting high percentage than my colleagues as well. I
take knowledge not only about the book but also about the real business and commercial trade. I never
reject any offer directly; first I look and think about future as well, because they may be benefit able later.
So, I think we should be little bit intelligent to become a successful business student. Next, I am patient
because I am optimistic. I hate the people who scare without looking future consequences. I am
concentrating only in study and look forward thinking I will definitely complete DMS and MBA. So, I am
not too much worried at present. Lastly, I have good enough courage to complete my DMS and MBA.

We may face different types of problems, difficult situations, and unexpected circumstances during our
course study. Many times, our study and things around us doesn¶t work as we think it should; so, we
should be courageous. The reason why, we can handle each and every situation as it comes. If we remain
patience and unafraid of ups and down of our daily life we can be successful within our planned time.
As describing about my weaknesses, firstly, time is very important thing for everyone. Regarding me I
careless the time thinking all works can do at the end of time. I have a job, I have to study and meet
friends but even I couldn¶t manage all the things in right way. Every time I have to face lots of pressure at
the end of time like this assignment as well. Secondly, one of my weaknesses is communication, when I
have to speak in front of classroom, or in front of mass group of people, I became nervous and shy. I
couldn¶t control my self or couldn¶t remember what I had planned to speak. I thought that the people to
whom I am giving speech are more focused on me rather than on the information that I am presenting
them. Next, I am not used to of advance writings. I have to submit more assignments for DMS and MBA
so I am feeling little bit worry about this. Next, I have done as an accountant in organization but only that
is not sufficient to understand practical based subjects. If I had good and enough knowledge about
managerial skills I may feel very easy to study and understand this course. And, much importantly, this
would be beneficiary for my MBA course. Lastly, I feel little bit difficult while leading others and
communicating for a whole team and working with them, but hope later it¶ll all disappear.

SWOT is abbreviation of c    SWOT analysis is very


important management tool for auditing the overall strategic positions and issues of the business and its
environment, Tutor2u.net. It is usually used in a competitive environment to identify an organizational
competitive capacity in relation to its competitors in the same environment. It is also important to
assessment personal audit within organizational context. SWOT analysis of individual is identifying
internal and external factors that are favorable to the business or individual goal and unfavorable to the
business and individual goal. Even, inside any individual may have his/her strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats part. So, it is very important for any person to assess his/her abilities to match
with future requirement. Thus, it is very essential to carry out a personal SWOT analysis of professional
career. Personal SWOT analysis helps to improve and more importantly allows us to identify our internal
strengths and weaknesses that can we improve. The table below presents my strengths, weaknesses,

The above figure represents about my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats that I may face in the
pursuits of my management and leadership goals. But there are some strategies as well to avoid
weaknesses and threats using strengths and opportunities, which I made to implement. The persons or any
business¶s strengths and weaknesses factors are controllable and modifiable, we can say these are the
external factors but the opportunities and threats are external factors which are uncontrollable. This is the
hypothesis of individual analysis and plan.

Time and recourse planning management plays a crucial role in achieving planned goals. Time
management skill is one of the important skills of a manager. In addition, its important depends on the
basis of organization type. Such as, if the organization is Fashion Designer Companies; time management
plays a vital role. Next, for instance Technology Company as well needs proper time management they
have to produce time demand goods using own resources. When we talk about the successful personal
and professional development the key strategy is we have to make a time and resource planning guide
which helps us to develop our plan continuously. Creating a time and resource development plan is the
first thing we should do when undertaking any kind of work. Many times, project planning is ignored in
favor of getting on with work. However, most of the people fail to realize the importance of a project plan
in saving money, time and many problems. In my context, time is very essential because now I am
scholar in critical moment, if I did well in DMS then only I can join MBA. I have to run according to
plan. I want to become successful management professional, so without making time and resource

In general, management style means how the manager presents or deals with his/her staffs is management
style. ³Management style´ is a term mostly used to describe ³how´ of management. It is the functions of
behavior and connected to personality of manager. Business management style is the mix of theories and
practices. Manager has to perform many roles inside organization and how they could handle efficiently
from various situations depends on their style of management. A management style is an overall method
of leadership used by a manger. Managers have to deal with their subordinates in different ways. Some
time managers have to change their management style according to time and situations like; economic,
political, technical etc. Before few years it is believed that there were only two basic management styles
which are Autocratic management style and Democratic management style but now days we can get
many types of management styles.

   ! "# c$% In this style managers are like to make all the
important decisions and closely supervise and controls to their subordinates. Here, managers do not trust
staffs and simply give orders or commands (one-way communication) that they expect to follow.
Basically such managers are saying ³just do as I say´. In modern business organizations, this kind of style
of management can not be success as it will ultimately cause staffs demotivation or possible rebellion and
legal actions for bullying. However, autocratic management style may suitable in crisis situations and in
the military purpose.

&#"#c$%In this manage management style; managers try to get their objectives
by consensus and staff participation. Even, these managers seek the opinion from their staff on serious
issues. Here, most of the company¶s decisions and policies are made, taking into consideration of
employee¶s opinions. It is said that, this kind of management style likely to reduce staff rebellion.
Democratic management style is also known as participative management style. In this type of
management style, inside organization employees communicate openly and freely with each other.
Probably, every employee prefers this type of management style. However, in this management style as
well, there are chances to create problems, for example; the staffs are against an important plan which
management wants to implement.

'  "#c$%In this management style, management style depends up on book, so
such managers are completely inflexible. Almost, such managers say ³I go by the book, no more no less´.
Next, such managers want everything is done in accordance with company¶s rules and regulations,
procedures and culture. This kind of management style is suitable for those organizations where job
requires all the staff should know and understand all the policies and procedures. Moreover, this type of
management style need for health and safety reasons, like certain work has to be done in a certain way

and for security reasons as well. However, a bureaucratic management style also could cause problems
where innovations and initiatives are required on the job and staffs have become bored from their jobs
and they need challenges.

()"#c$%In this management style, the overall targets are communicated to the
employees, and employees are allowed to meet targets in whichever way they want. This is a vey liberal
management style. In this style, communication is open between the employees. However, there is a lot
chance of chaos in the delegation of authority and responsibility. Sometime this management style would
be out of control, so this management style can spell ³doom´ for an organization. Even though, it is
adopted in control by many business organizations these days and working well.

*#+ "# c$% This management style also referred to as Laissez-faire Style. In this
management style, where managers give just little or no any direction to the staff, basically letting the
staff to just carry on with their job. This style provides proud to the employees and great deal of
empowerment, who may feel they are in charge of their jobs and can work without supervision. However,
this kind of management style is only suitable where the staffs are highly skilled and experienced,
trustworthy, and interested in working. Here, there is no important role of manager because managers are
kept in the µdark¶ as to what is going on as there is little or no feedback from the employees.

like training, guiding, counseling for the future growth of the organization. This management styles is
now used widely across the organizations, because this style will be extremely helpful for the
improvement of employee¶s performance and the future strength of both staff and the organizations.
Moreover, properly trained employees would be much more confident and efficient of the job.

Probably, there are few organizations who adopt from exact management style. There are different norms
and conditions which has bounded them to establish their own management style. Actually, there is no
particularly accepted and recognized style of management, but style that leads to increased staff job
satisfaction, motivation and productivity should be encouraged. And, while those styles have the opposite
effect should be discouraged.

Basically, management styles are usually based on circumstances prevailing. Next, a manager is generally
responsible for the overall goal of the organization and for a team of people. Manager must be able to
communicate, lead, influence and negotiate. However, these skills can be performed in various ways.

According to survey published by the CMI, most managers in UK¶s organizations are bureaucratic and
reactive. The report also found that the management styles in many business organizations are not
conductive to the creation of high performance culture where creativity and innovation can flourish,
possibly because management is restrictive (Ruth McGuire, 2005). There are lots of management styles
developed in theories but not adopted for practice, some of them are overlapped. I would suggest that
anywhere I will fit in will also be subject to the situations and scenarios in place. In my own thinking I
might be fit in democratic management style, because what I want as a manger, all tells democratic
management style, because at this stage manager are not supposed to do right and rational judgment every
time, staff are also superior than manager in some cases, so it would better for an organization to run
participative management style rather than other management style. In addition to this, rebel of
employee¶s inside an organization is very worst for the overall output of organization, here, if we
implement democratic management style there is less chance of arising conflicts. However, truth is
manager should apply appropriate management style at the most appropriate time.

Usually, the overall success of the organization is depends on how the manager run the organization. So,
manager has to play vital role to achieve planned goals. Effective utilization of staffs with strategies
management needs an effective manager, who must have some qualities for carrying out various
managerial roles. A skill full manager is able to manage and monitor effectiveness in such a way that
objectives are achieved. A manager should be result- oriented and make the things happen. In my context
as well, I must have some qualities. Talking about requirement of effective manager, nobody is inborn
with required managerial skills; the skills develop simultaneously by experience and knowledge. The
skills need to be effective manager of business professional are mainly, decision making, controlling,
communicating, organizing and motivating. Decision making skill is the important skills for organization
because every time managers have to take decision. Controlling skill is how to control organization,
minimizing cost, controlling staff etc. Communicating skill needs for make effective relationship between
staff and organization. Organizing is essential for organizing organizational plans and recourses and
motivating needs to motivate staff toward achieving goals .Here are some other skills which are also
essential to become an effective manager like; cooperation skill, manager must cooperate with other sub
managers and team members to create an environment for mutual cooperation and understanding. Next,
duty and discipline, first manager should create discipline and he/she must be well disciplined and must
maintain good discipline in his team. Next, self confidence, without confidence leading to others is like
walking in road without destination so manager should also be able to develop self-confidence in his
subordinates. Another skill is liveliness, manager should not treat his/her staff as machine, there should
show signs of life through their interaction. Next, social adoptability and ability to influence, manager
must be able to adapt himself in any kind of social environments and he must be able to influence his

subordinates and get their willing support. Others are risk taking ability, sense of responsibility,
determination, effective intelligence etc. These above mentioned skills and abilities are essential to
become effective manager. I must achieve all the skills and abilities mentioned above in order to become
effective manager because all are required abilities.
