Design Brief- Newscast

1. Introduction
Yesterday the Water Corporation visited our school. They tested our water usage and they found we are
using 9000 litres of water per day. That’s a whopping 45,000 litres per week! This is far too much water.
Something needs to change! The Water Corporation has given us one (1) month to slash our usage by
50% or else they are turning off our water.

2. Design Brief

In groups of four (4) you must make a newscast to


inform the whole school of the water shutdown if we
don’t work together to get our water usage down.
You will need to persuade and inform your peers to
become waterwise.

Key Questions:
How do people waste water?
How can people reduce water waste?
What will happen if the school had no water?
3. Generating designs
 In your groups select the roles of your newscast,
ensuring everyone has an equal role.
 Students must supply 1 story board which orders
the sequence of their newscast with what
information they are reporting (what will the
report on first, what will they say).

6. Project management:
Lesson
1. Students will brainstorm ways in which students use water, wastewater and the impacts of
using too much water. Students will also allocate roles for the newscast.
2. Student’s will make observation of where the water is wasted in the school.
3. Design a story board of how they will present their information.
4. Complete the design board and script.
5. Bring in materials and build resources they need for their newscast.
