Demonstration project
EDUC 270
Purpose: To demonstrate an instructional strategy learned in class to your peers. This will help
you AND them understand how to use it in their classrooms AND to prepare yourself for
teaching literacy using this strategy. This will prepare you to using developmentally effective
approaches, use content knowledge to build meaningful curriculum, and observe, document, and
assess to support young children and families. (NAEYC 3a, b, c, d, 4b, c, d, 5a, b, c)
Task One:
1. On Facebook, you will be assigned one of the following instructional strategies to plan a
lesson for. You can select the age of learner that best matches the strategy and the
population you wish to teach.
2. You will plan the lesson using the HACC lesson plan format. You will also make the materials
needed to demonstrate this lesson to your peers. This demonstration is not teaching the
lesson, but walking us through the lesson and sharing your materials. You must prepare all
materials, handouts, and assessments for your lesson plan to share.
3. Videotape yourself explaining your lesson plan and sharing your materials. You may also
do a screenshare of your lesson plan for your video.
4. Lesson plan demonstration videos will be shared on Facebook by the due date. When you
share your lesson plan, please post it using in the following format:
Instructional Category: Instructional Strategy (Your Name)
Example: Emergent Literacy: Syllable Activity (Jennifer Myers)
Task Two:
1. You will use the Instructional Strategy Task Sheet to evaluate and actively interact with the
lesson plans of your peers, posted on Facebook.
2. You will schedule a phone/video conference with Professor Myers through the FB sign-up
to be completed during the Lesson Plan Demonstration Week. After your conferences,
you will REVISE your lesson plan for final grading. Your revised lesson plan will be
dropboxed by the due date listed on the course calendar.
