Vivien Aika G. Rosales Reading in Philippine History

BSBA FM – 1A September 10, 2019

The Philippine Archives Collection constitutes an invaluable source of information

on the Pacific war during World War II, particularly concerning the treatment of prisoners
of war; military operations in the Philippines; guerrilla warfare in the Philippines; and
conditions in the Philippines under Japanese occupation. Many of these records have
intrinsic value because their form and media are indicative of the shortage of paper in the
Philippines.

This figure in the book is accurate as it is the actual

logo of the Philippine National Archives which guaranteed
that documents and records are preserved and accessible
to the public lies with the National Archives of the
Philippines. Its main responsibility is to preserve the
primary sources of information on Philippine history, the
basic components of cultural heritage and collective
memory.

Another figure is the Catalogo Alphabetico de

Apellidos where there are surnames in the Philippines and
other islands of Spanish East Indies published in the mid-
19th century. This was in response to a Spanish colonial
decree establishing the distribution of Spanish family
names and local surnames among colonial subjects who
did not have a prior surname. This figure is also accurate
by the means of it is created by the Spanish Governor-
General. This book consists of 141 pages, with surnames
arranged in six columns with at most 72 entries per column.

The other figures in the book don’t have any references but it may still be useful to
other documents because there are still copies of documents in other books or written
documents that might be used for the future researches. These figures can support
documents that is significant to our country and other sources for the better understanding
of the readers and to have knowledge about the documents.
