Suggested Specifications: Type SC-II
General
Furnish and install as outlined in the plans and described in these specifications Federal Pump Series SC-II Horizontal
Split Case single stage double suction centrifugal pump designed to deliver the scheduled flow rate (GPM) at the
scheduled total dynamic head (TDH) in feet. Pump will be sized to be non-overloading throughout the full range of
operation, and connected to an electric motor, sized as shown in the equipment schedule, through a flexible coupling
surrounded by a metal coupling guard. Pump, motor and coupling will be mounted on a fabricated steel base and
installed in accordance with pump manufacturers installation instructions. The contractor will ensure, during
installation, that all pipe strain has been removed from the pump connections prior to start-up. Pump
manufacturer’s representative will provide laser alignment of pump and motor at start-up and conform proper
installation in accordance with installation instructions.

Casing: The casing shall be cast iron (or as outlined in the equipment schedule) with casing halves divided on the
horizontal axis machined, doweled and bolted together and provided with casing gasket between machined casing
halves. Casing material will be cast iron Class A48 (or as shown in the equipment schedule) with minimum tensile
strength of 35,000 PSI. Casing design will allow the removal of the entire rotating assembly by removing the upper
half of the casing without disturbing suction and discharge piping connections. Casing shall be designed for
scheduled working pressure and be hydrostatic tested at 1.5 times working pressure to ensure case integrity.

Impeller: Shall be stainless steel, double suction design enclosed type, static and dynamic balanced and installed on
the rotating shaft and held in place by impeller key and locked in position by shaft sleeves. Impeller and shaft will be
supported by radial and axial load bearings installed on opposite sides of the impeller designed to support the static
and hydraulic forces of the pump thought the entire range of operation.

Shaft: Shall be high tensile steel designed to withstand static and hydraulic forces and sized for the appropriate
horsepower and held in place by the pump bearings.

Shaft Sleeves: Shall be 400 series stainless steel firmly attached to the pump shaft by locking means. Sleeves will be
provided as standard product offering designed to prevent wear and tear and corrosion to the pump shaft.

Bearings: Bearings shall be provided limiting shaft deflection to 0.001 inches at the mechanical seal and shall
support the shaft and shaft loading over the full range of pump operation. Bearings shall be grease lubricated ball
type bearings and locked to the shaft with positive locking devices sized to withstand axial and radial loads imposed
under normal operation.

Shaft Seals: Pump manufacturer shall provided the mechanical seal suitable for the use intended or as outlined in
the equipment schedule. Mechanical seals shall be suitable for the fluid pumped, operating temperatures, working
pressures and be provided with case mounted seal flush lines.

Base, Coupling and guards: Pumps shall be mounted on fabricated steel baseplates and connected through a heavy
duty flexible coupling to a horizontal motor sized as outlined in the equipment schedule. Pump manufacturer shall
provide a coupling guard mounted between the pump and motor and firmly attached to the baseplate.

Motor: The motor shall be sized to operate continuously without exceeding the horsepower rating as outlined in the
equipment schedule. Motor enclosure, HP, voltage, RPM and efficiencies shall meet NEMA standards for premium
efficient motors. Pump manufacturer will ensure motors used in variable speed applications are coordinated
properly with variable speed drive manufacturer’s requirements for variable frequency operation.
