INTRODUCTION
` Elevators are very useful today, especially in tall buildings. It will indeed be very
hassle for a person to climb to high floors of a building by using the staircase. It will take
so much of a legwork and hence make someone very tired and unproductive. That’s why
companies with tall building really make sure they have an elevator to give a convenient
surrounding especially to the PWD’s and senior citizens in our society.
However, this function is still not enough. Whenever there are power interruptions or
any malfunctions, it is hard for the management to locate where the elevator has stuck
up. Due to this, we are proposing the “3-Storey Elevator Prototype” which will serve as a
solution to this problem.

I. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
“3-Storey Building Elevator Prototype” is a system containing two types of display.
One is for the floor number and the other is for the monitoring of the actual position
including its movement. With this, the users and the management will be able to see what
floor the elevator is. For this project’s prototype, there will be a building with three floors.
Each floor will have its corresponding button for it to be accessed. An LCD will also be
used as floor level display and a laptop as a medium for scada display.
In the Scada display we will be able to see the gradual movement of the elevator
using ultrasonic sensor which will be attached at the ceiling of the building just on top of
the elevator. Whenever the elevator stops, it will also be seen in the monitor indicating
that the elevator has arrived its destination.

SCOPE
 It can monitor the actual position and movement through computer.
 It can save time and effort from going up and down in the building.

LIMITATION
 The button is on the ground floor that’s why it is inaccessible in other floors
 The movement of the elevator in the scada is not stable since it only relies to the
value given by the ultrasonic sensor.
 Cant establish communication between the controller and the users.
II. HARDWARE DESIGN

Materials:
1. ARDUINO BOARD UNO MODEL:

The board provides sets of digital and analog Input/output

(I/O) pins that can interface to various expansion boards
(termed shields) and other circuits. The boards feature serial
communication interfaces, including Universal Serial Bus
(USB) on UNO model, for loading programs from personal
computers. For programming the microcontrollers, the
Arduino project provides an integrated development
environment (IDE) makes it easy to write code and upload it
to the board. It runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux
2. ULTRASONIC SENSORSHC-SR04:

Ultrasonic ranging module HC -SR04 provides 2cm -400cm non-contact measurement

function, the ranging accuracy can reach to 3mm. The modules include ultrasonic
transmitters, receiver, and control circuit, within measuring angle 15 degrees.
Wire connecting directly as following:

 5V Supply
 Trigger Pulse Input
 Echo Pulse Output
 0V Ground

3. PUSH BUTTON
Buttons are typically made out of hard material, usually plastic
or metal. The surface is usually flat or shaped to accommodate the
human finger or hand, so as to be easily depressed or pushed.
4. LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY
LCD screen is an electronic display
module and find a wide range of applications. A
16x2 LCD display is very basic module and is
very commonly used in various devices and
circuits. These modules are preferred over seven
segments and other multi segment LEDs. The
reasons being: LCDs are economical; easily
programmable; have no limitation of displaying
special & even custom characters .

5. STEP MOTOR (5V)

Its speed and rotation is programmable. It works just like the standard kinds but
smaller.
Specifications:

 Weight: 9 g
 Dimension: 22.2 x 11.8 x 31 mm approx.
 Stall torque: 1.8 kg f cm
 Operating speed: 0.1 s/60 degree
 Operating voltage: 4.8 V (~5V)
 Temperature range: 0 ºC–55 ºC

This block diagram shows how every component is interfaced with each other. The
arduino will be supplied with 5V battery. The output pin of the ultrasonic sensor is
connected to the input pin of the arduino. While the output of the pushbutton will also be
interfaced with the arduino. The arduino will be the one controlling the Step Motor, LCD
and LED. The output signal from the arduino is sent to these components.

Circuit Diagram

The 3 push buttons which serves as the input in the Arduino will be connected to
pin 2, 3 and 4 of the Arduino Uno R3. The Stepper Motor which makes this elevator
possible is connected to the pin 9, 10, 11 and 12. The LEDs go to pin 7, 8, and 13 with
a resistor beside it to limit the current flow of the circuit. The LCD is connected to pin 5
and 6 which displays what floor they are in.

IV. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

We conclude that this device is a helpful project in our society. If ever there are
earthquakes or other emergencies that can make the elevator get stuck in the building,
the people trapped in there would be rescued immediately.
While doing this project, we encountered a problem on what rope are we going to
use because if we test it repetitively, it tends to be tangled and make the elevator stop
even if it is not yet the appropriate floor. Therefore, it is recommended to use a proper
rope with a good quality.
Also, to fully help the rescuers, it would be much better if there is a camera and a
microphone inside because it would not only help in detecting which floor did it get stuck
but also it can establish a communication between the rescuers and victims to know their
condition if ever emergencies occur.
