Objectives:
O1: to answer questions and express their opinion about wisdom;
O2: to watch and listen to a video clip in order to get feedback;
O3: to read and understand a transcript;
O4: to discuss quotes about wisdom;

Skills: speaking, listening, reading, writing


Methods: conversation, observation, analysis and exercise

Stages and techniques


1. Warm-up (3-4 min)
Routine conversation for a pleasant atmosphere.
2. Lead-in (4 min)
Teacher writes the following nouns on the board: optimism, decency, wisdom,
intelligence, sociability, kindness, generosity. T asks Ss to write the adjectives for each
noun. Answer: optimistic, decent, wise, intelligent, sociable, kind, generous. T asks Ss to
form sentences related to wisdom.
3. Pre-listening (8-10 min)
T asks Ss to discuss the following questions:
- Which characteristics should people have to have a happy life? Get feedback from the
class.
- What is wisdom?
- Can you give examples of people that you consider wise?
4. While-listening( 8-15 min)
T tells Ss that they are going to watch a short video with well-known people who give
their definition on wisdom. Ss should write words and expressions that describe wisdom.

5. After-listening
T gives Ss the quotes from the video and asks Ss to discuss them. Get feedback.(10min)
6. Homework (1-2 min)
Ss have to choose three quotes they like the most and write (for each) a paragraph
explaining why they like them and what they mean.
