The term “ semÎ-automatic" shall be defined as follows:

(2) The equipment shall be capable of combining the aggregate, cement, admixture and water
into a uniform mixture within the time lirnit specified hereafter and of discharging this
rnixture without segregation. The complete plant assembly shall include provisions to
facilitate the inspection of al1 operations at all times. The plant shall be subject to the approval
of the Engineer.
(3) An individual weigh batcher shal1 be provided for each material except the admixture
which may be matched by volume. Adequate facilities shall be provided for the accurate
measurement and control of each of the materials entering each batch of concrete.
(4) The Contractor shall provide the standard test weights and any other auxiliary equipment
required for checking the operating performance of each scale or other measuring device.
Periodic tests according to the manufacturer ’ s instructions shal1 be made in the presence of
the representative of the Engineer in such a manner and at such intervals as may be directed
by the Engineer.
(5) The plant shall be capable of automatic adjustrnent to compensate for the vaηring moisture
content of the aggregate and to change the weights of the materials being batched.
(6) The batching equipment shall include an accurate recorder for making a continuous visible
combined record on a single chart of the separate measurement of each concrete ingredient,
including all rnixing water and admixture and of consistency of the concrete during the
rnixing process. Admissible eπors in batching shall be as follows:

(7) Batching of concrete shall not commence unless due notice, at least 24 hours in advance,
has been given to the representative of the Engineer and his written approval obtained for the
state of the rnixing, transport and placing arrangements and for the preparation and accuracy
of the part of the work in which concrete is to be placed.
(8) The Contractor shall require the written permission of the Engineer prior to
commencement of each pour of concrete.
(9) The batching plant shal1 be tested according to USBR Concrete Manual Designation 26
and ASTM C94. It shal1 be kept clean and in proper working order. The mixing blades in the
drum shal1 be replaced when wom by 10% oftheir dimensions. The quantity ofmaterial in l'
