1 Overview
PAC-E100S, Overcurrent & Earth Fault Relay is a microprocessor-based numerical protection
relay designed for the management and protection of a distribution feeder. PAC-E100S has the
protection elements of overcurrent (50/51), ground overcurrent (50N/51N), thermal
overload(49), undercurrent(37) and negative phase sequence overcurrent(46), auto-
reclosing(79), CB failure(50BF), cold load pickup, and inrush current detection. It has 4
standard IEC TC curves (normal inverse, very inverse, extremely inverse, long-time inverse),
7 standard ANSI TC curves and 2 KEPCO’s induction type TC curves (KEPCO normal inverse,
KEPCO very inverse). Also it provides the measurements of 3 phase currents, sequence current,
2nd harmonic current, frequency, CB trip counter, CB wear monitoring and control functions
for a circuit breaker.
PAC-E100S can be used for protection of motor because it has the protection elements of
thermal overload, undercurrent, and negative phase sequence overcurrent for motor.
Programmable logic is designed for the replacement of external wiring for the sequence logic.
The configurations of contact inputs/outputs and programmable LEDs are very easy by keypad
or configuration software, E3RSet. Programmable Logic is specially designed funtion for easy
maintenance and operation of PAC-E100S.

3.1 General
SETTING is the menu that display or change setting value in PAC-E100S. The setting value
can be displayed without confirming the password but the changing need to confirm password.
3.2 System
There are several system setting items such as power system, waveform, RTC, CB control, TCS,
CB monitor, COM, contact input , contact output, LED, user logic, password.
3.2.1 PASSWORD
There is password for changing setting valus. The password has 4 digits numeric whose range
is ‘0’ to ‘9’. The factory settings of passwords are‘0000’.
RATED FREQUENCY
Rated frequency should set to the same value as power system frequency because it is important
component that is used in metering and protection of PAC-E100S. If power system frequency
differs from setting frequency, the measured values swing seriously and cause error in operaing
characteristic of protection component. After the rated frequency setting is changed, the control
power of PAC-E100S should be OFF to ON in order to apply the changed value.
CT RATIO
PAC-E100S has 8 current inputs. The primary current are caculated as bellows
The phase current value = PHS CT RATIO*current input (A)
Ground current value = GND CT RATIO*current input(A)

3.3 Protection
Protection component setting of PAC-E100S is attained through SETTING/PROTECTIONn.
n means setting group. ‘**’ denote current setting group.
Each protection group consist of IOC1(50_1), IOC2(50_2), TOC(51), IOCG1 (50N_1), IOCG2
(50N_2), TOCG (51N), THERMAL (49), UC(37), NSOC(46), AREL(79), CBF(50BF), COLD
LD and INRUSH.
FUNCTION, BLOCK
All protection components have setting item, FUNCTION, BLOCK commonly.
During ‘FUNCTION’ is set to ‘DISABLE’, it’s protection does’t operate until ‘FUNCTION’
is set to ‘ENABLE’. But if ‘FUNCTION’ is set to ‘ENABLE and ‘BLOCK’ is set to any logic
condition, it’s protection is blocked only while ‘BLOCK’ logic input is logic ‘1’.

3.4.1 Record
Event/Fault record
PAC-E100S can record maximum 70 event/fault records. All records include the occurred time
of 1 msec resolution. The event items are control power on/off, protection operation status,
digital input/output status, CB control, setting change, diagnostic status, event data clear,
waveform data clear etc.
In case the event are the protection status, the record include the below fault informations.
Current A, B, C, N, secondary magnitude
The events can be viewed through front LCD and uploaded to PC by E3RSet™ through
communication at local or remote side. The records are maintained in PAC-E100S even if PAC-
E100S lost its control power.

Modification of settings or/and system configuration is generally performed using keypad buttons
in the LCD menu on front panel of PAC-E100S. But this job is handled item by item at one time.
So, this setting tool is used to facilitate a batch job. Refer to the figure of RS232 connection in
the previous section, and the ModBus protocol is used. All the data can be saved in files as project
concept and the specific setting values are downloaded to PAC-E100S just by opening the saved
project data file. Other functions include event data uploading & listing, fault data uploading, and
data printing.

It must be selected to control relay model because setting software is program that control 3
types relay by 1 program. Press “Connect”( ) button, show window as below figure and
select to control relay model. If there is not connected between PAC-E100S and PC, windows
of ‘Communication Error’ appear and front panel doesn’t display any indication even if press
“Connect” ( ) button.
This configuration is related to general system setting of PAC-E100S. Setting items are Power
System, Circuit Breaker Control, Password, COM, and DNP communication. Each item’s
function is the same as that of LCD menu on front panel.

PAC-E100S(Overcurrent and Earth Fault Relay)
This setting is a main settings modification of PAC-E100S and is related to the setting items
of protection elements. In the sub-frames, it is separated into OCR (IOC1, IOC2, TOC), OCGR
(IOCG1, IOCG2, TOCG), THERMAL (49), UC (37) and NSOC (46). The selected TC curve
represents each inverse time element and reflects the change of time dial multiplier.
This setting is set up contact input/output of PAC-E100S. Setting items are 7 Contact Input
and 5 Contact Output.
