Who’s Hot, Who’s Not

Who’s Hot: Great Britain is a nation so extraordinary that it is considered a world power. This great

country had many hardships and achieved great success over the past century. When the French

brought Britain into the continental war over the Austrian succession, British-French conflict began to

expand. This conflict is expanding beyond the Continent when France is supported by Spain against

Britain. French power is now weakened because of the badly divided resources. Since the French are

now experiencing conflicts with Austria, Great Britain is able to defeat the French. In addition to

succeeding against the French in the War of Austrian Succession, Britain won the Seven Years War.

William Pitt, a man whose ego precedes his fame, helped Great Britain to numerous victories by

achieving unprecedented cooperation with the American Colonies by convincing their leaders to realize

that they could defeat their French Neighbors. In September 1759, on the Plains of Abraham, the

British Army, under James Wolfe, was able to defeat the French which led to the fall of the French

Empire in Canada. The Treaty of Paris wasn’t exactly a victory for Britain. What it did help was

allowing Britain to gain land: Canada and parts of valleys in North America. More importantly, to be

able to keep their power in check.

Who’s Not: The French have not been doing well over the past century. Their country is facing great

difficulty at the moment due to the decrease in economy and resources. In the War of Austrian

Succession, France decides to move against Austria and bring Great Britain into continental war.

France supports Spain against Britain, expanding British-French conflicts. Resulting from this the

military and economy is coming to a downfall. France is not able to provide the proper strength and

sufficient resources to the sudden change. Choosing to continue struggling with Austria, France loses

against England.

During the Seven Years' War, the French makes an alliance with Austria in an attempt to deal with the

British. Great Britain gathers American colonies against the French. The French government is now
unable to direct similar resources against the English in America. Due to the fragmentation and

corruption of the military administration, France can't supply the North American forces. After defeat

of the French by the British army under James Wolfe, the French Empire in Canada has come to an

end. France also loses control over it's colonial power.
