Concave Mirror Lab

Purpose: To predict the properties of images created by concave mirrors, using scale diagrams.

Materials:
● Concave (converging) mirror (f = 20cm)
● Metere stick
● Candle

Procedure: Refer to “Concave Mirror Investigation” sheet

Observations:

Analysis:
1. When an object moves towards a concave mirror the image size gets bigger.
2. It is impossible to measure the experimental image distance when it's at 20cm
because an image is not going to form, and it is impossible to measure the
experimental image distance when it's at 10cm because the image is inside the
mirror.
3. a) If the object is before the center of curvature it will always produce a real
image that is samller than the object.
b) If the object is after the center of curvature, but before the focal point, it will
always produce an image hat is larger than the object.
c) The object muat be placed on the center of Curvature to produce a real image.
