PREFACE
We would like to thank you for choosing the WINDCUBE
WINDCUBE for your activities. This
LIDAR has been designed to ensure you a reliable and easy way to measure wind
profiles. We wish you a lot of success in its use and hope that it will highly contribute
to the advancement of your projects.
The WINDCUBE product range guarantees a high level of user friendliness and requires no
specific knowledge about LIDAR technology. The system provides a consistent
measurement of 10 heights wind profile in real time without any calibration
calibratio performed by the
user.
This particular document encloses the technical information required to handle, operate and
maintain the WINDCUBE in a proper and safe way.
The
he Caution Labels In accordance with CDRH and CE requirements
the Caution Labels are prominently displayed on the WINDCUBE
WINDCUBE casing. These cautions
may exceed the actual level of hazard of the WINDCUBE
WINDCUBE system itself but apply to its inner
components that are individually marked with such caution labels.

Several options are available to power WINDCUBE : the user can either choose to power
the lidar with 27V
V source (from wind turbine or diesel generator output for example) or use
110-220VAC/27VDC VDC voltage converter.
converter In both cases, it is highly recommended to check the
quality of the power supply chain and make sure that 27V 2 line is within the following
specifications:
- maximal ripple and noise <150mVp-p
<150mVp
- Line regulation: +/-0.2%
0.2%
Voltage at Windcube
indcube level (ie after line losses in DC cable) has to be
above 25V.
In case the system is powered with 110-220VAC voltage not from grid, it
is highly recommended to implement a filter between 110-220VAC
220VAC source and
110-220VAC/27VDCVDC voltage converter to ensure sufficient voltage line quality.

4. OPERATION
Before switching the WINDCUBETM on, the user has to make sure that, as recommended by
Leosphere Client Service, he has a laptop
lap available with standard network board and
Windows operating system
NOTE: WINDCUBETM contains an a industrial computer with Windsoft software installed. The
user can then access WINDCUBETM from any computer or laptop via remote connexion.
There is no need to install WINDCUBETM software on user’s computer
Please note that most of standard network board operates with crossed
or non crossed cables. However, if laptop is not recent enough, the user
should use a non-crossed
crossed cable.

Fig. 21 - WINDCUBE Graphical User Interface: ‘Statistics’ Tab
Statistical data at user selected altitudes are presented in a table where one line corresponds
to one altitude. The table counts 11 columns showing the following information:
- Heights
- Horizontal wind speed averaged over 10 minutes
- Wind direction averaged over 10 minutes
- Standard deviation on horizontal wind speed over the averaging period
- Maximal wind speed in the past 10 minutes
- Minimal wind speed in the past 10 minutes
- Vertical wind speed averaged averaged over 10 minutes
- Standard deviation on vertical wind speed averaged over 10 minutes
- Real time data availability over the averaging period (this corresponds to the
ratio of measurement points accepted by built-in data filters over the complete
set of measurement that took place during the averaging period)
NOTE: Additional parameters as mean spectral broadening and mean CNR are available for
users owning the optional Expert version of the software
• Connect laptop to WINDCUBE and take control using Windows desktop remote
connection (see section 6). Click on ‘STOP’ button. The laser source is stopped and
the data files closed
• Make sure that the ‘Autorun’ function is set if required.
NOTE: At this stage, if you start again a measurement without modifying any parameter, data
will automatically be stored in new files.

NOTE: Users owning the Optional expert version of the software can choose to average data
every 2, 5 or 10 minutes
DATA folder contains three types of file (Fig. 23).. These files are created whenever the
user press ‘START’ button or every 12 hours (at 12pm and 0pm, 0 GMT) while
measurement is running.
NOTE: Expert version of the software allows choosing any multiple of 1 hour instead of
steady 12 hours value
Time reference for all data files and folders is local time (from Windows synchronization
service).
NOTE: Users owning the Optional expert version of the software can choose UTC as
time reference
NOTE: Negative sign for vertical wind speed indicates a vertical wind
speed component pointing up.

8. MAINTENANCE
The WINDCUBE has been designed in a way to reduce the system maintenance to an
absolutely necessary minimum.
Two levels of maintenance are required to ensure long lasting operation and extend
operation time between failures:
- Light Maintenance, i.e. the replacement
replaceme of consumables
- Heavy Maintenance, i.e. the servicing of the WINDCUBE
WINDCUBE itself

WINDCUBE rotation stage has to be checked at least every two years of use. A spare part
can be provided during maintenance if LEOSPHERE has been appointed at least 2 months
before maintenance period.
