2. Geomechanics and Strength of Materials Lab: The objective of this lab course is to make students
understand the mechanical properties of rock and its application in upstream hydrocarbon industry.
The students analyze the pore structure, compressive and tensile strength ductility, hardness,
brittleness, elasticity, fatigue limits of various materials.
3. Drilling Fluids & Cements Lab: The objective of this lab course is to make students understand the
characteristics of drilling fluid and cementation. They learn about the classification of drilling fluids,
properties and nature of drilling fluids, and how to select an effective fluid system.
4. Safety, Health and Environment Lab: The objective of this lab course is to give students an
exposure on day-to-day Safety, Health and Environmental activities of various segments of
hydrocarbon industries.
5. Petroleum Engineering Lab (PE-1 and PE-2): To provide students the knowledge about the
basic laboratory equipments, methods and procedures used in petroleum upstream business for
effective exploration and exploitation. To study principles and methods involved with the production
of oil, gas, and water from subsurface reservoirs and the surface processing of oil and gas in the
installation like EPS/GGS/GCS etc. To provide practical and hands on knowledge regarding rocks and
fluids inside the reservoirs, their physico-chemical properties and well as their flow behavior in
subsurface and surface condition: Starting from core plugging machine to every aspect of core
analysis with the practical aspect and application of the petro physical parameters of petroleum
reservoir rocks are the strengths of the laboratories. Experiments in Core Flooding apparatus help
students to learn and visualize the fluid flow system in porous and fracture medium reservoir medium
with great detail. Laboratory experiments with Rheometer, Particle size analyser, Tensiometer help
the students to learn more about fluid properties in different physico-chemical condition during
production. Students learn to design efficient and cost-effective procedures for lifting oil and gas from
subsurface reservoirs which includes detailed analysis of crude oil properties by using sophisticated
and non destructive equipments currently employed in oil and gas industries.
6. Petroleum Product Testing Lab: Practical classes are based on theory course content of the
Petroleum Engineering course. The students test the physical and chemical properties of petroleum
and petroleum related products.
7. Petroleum Product Application Lab: Practical classes are based on theory course content of the
Petroleum Engineering and Refinery courses. The students test the chemical properties of petroleum
and petroleum related products such as fire point, flash point, drop point, smoke point etc.
8. Reservoir Characterization Lab (RCL): To provide the students about the knowledge of
reservoir during its production life through characterization of reservoir rocks and fluids and through
simulation which is the art of combining physics, mathematics, reservoir engineering, and computer
programming to develop a tool to predict the performance of hydrocarbon reservoirs in various
operation strategies. UV-Vis and fluorescence spectrophotometer is used to characterize crude oils
and mixtures/emulsions of various in-situ and injection fluids for better understanding of the
phenomenon during later stages of oil recovery. Modeling of oil reservoir has great importance on
development and implementation of mathematical and stochastic models for the characterization of
petroleum reservoirs. It consists in building a computer model of an oil reservoir for the purpose of
improving the estimation of reserves and making decisions about the development of the field.
Workstation and computers of simulation/software lab supports the practical aspect of the modeling
and simulation.
9. Computer and Language Lab: SPT has a state of art Computer and Language Lab, where students
are exposed to various computer languages, internet applications and engineering softwares used in oil
and gas industry.
10. Drilling, Cementing & Stimulation Research Centre: The school of Petroleum Technology, Pandit
Deendayal Petroleum University was established in 2007. The primary objective of the school is to
become a world class research centre in upstream sector and to provide opportunities to researchers
and academicians around the globe which will help them to grow and excel in their professional life.
School of Petroleum Technology (SPT), PDPU has established a drilling, Cementing & Stimulation
research Centre to conduct excellent, high-tech and cutting-edge research by providing the state-of-
the-art research facilities.
