Introduction
In the advent of technology, people were enraptured by digital entertainment such as games.
Games were used to have fun and release the stresses of life. However, there are those who played way
too excessively than they should have and it is causing them to neglect their responsibilities. This is called
game addiction. And, this type of addiction is much more common in the youth and students are no
exception.
In this study we hope to identify the effects of games on students, both academically and socially,
and how to lessen the negative effects.
We have noticed that a significant percent of students are addicted to games and some appeared
to have performed poorly in academic and social activities. Therefore, we decided to conduct this study.
The study aims to identify the effects of games on grade 7 students through the following
questions:
Research Assumption
Games can cause students to neglect their respective duties, which then results in poor academic
performance. Playing games can also cause unrest and aggression in students.
Games, however, appeared to have enhanced players' cognitive functions such as attention span
and focus, visual processing, memory, strategic thinking and ocular precision. It is also said to have
increased players' hand to eye coordination.
Hypothesis
There is a connection to game addiction and the performance of students on their academic and
social activities.

The study was conducted only within the campus of La Consolacion College, Liloan, Cebu, Inc.
and was limited to only ten grade 7 students. The study was also conducted only to find out how games
affect the students and how to lessen the effects of game addiction.
The study relies heavily on the honesty, seriousness and integrity of the respondents. The study
also relies on the understanding of the respondents towards the questions on the questionnaire.

The Students. The results of this study will help students to be aware of game addiction and its
adverse effects.
The Parents. The results of this study will help parents to give proper guidance on how to help
their children in overcoming their addiction to games.
The Teachers.The results of this study will help teachers in getting connected with their students,
who are addicted to games, and in finding ways to bring them out from their addiction.
The Researchers.The results of this study will be of use to researchers as a reference material or
to further expound upon the findings of this study.
