maintenance, including important safety information.
Modem Setup will install the following components on your computer:
• Nokia 6600 data and fax modem drivers which enable you to use your phone as a
modem in data and fax calls
• Nokia Modem Options which enables you to set options for the data calls you make
Nokia Modem Options runs on Windows 98/Me/2000/XP and supports the Bluetooth DUN
and FAX profile.
1. From the CD-ROM main menu, click Install software and then click Install now. Click
Nokia Modem Options.
2. Follow the instructions on the screen.
In the Connection Method Selection dialog box, you are prompted to select one or more of
the available connection methods:
• infrared connection (provided that your computer has infrared capabilities), and
• Bluetooth connection (provided that a Bluetooth card and the associated software are
installed on your PC).
If you do not have the CD- ROM:
1. Download the installation file (MO_for_6600.exe).
2. Go to the directory where you downloaded the file and double-click it.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Note: You can only have one modem connection (over infrared or Bluetooth)
active at a time.
Note: You cannot use Nokia Connection Manager for using your phone as a
modem with Nokia Modem options. Make sure that all connection types are
disabled in Nokia Connection Manager when making a data call.

3. CONNECTING YOUR NOKIA 6600 TO YOUR PC
If you are using an infrared connection to connect your Nokia 6600 to the PC:
1. Ensure that an infrared driver is installed on your PC.
2. Activate the infrared connection from the phone. Go to Menu, open the Connectivity
folder and select Modem. For further information, refer to the Nokia 6600 User’s Guide.
3. Make sure that the infrared port of the phone faces the infrared port of your PC, and that
the infrared communication is enabled on the PC.
4. In Nokia Modem Options, select the appropriate infrared modem for your Nokia 6600 and
change the connections you want. Finally, click OK.
5. The connection is now ready.
If you are using a Bluetooth connection to connect your Nokia 6600 to the PC:
1. Ensure that a Bluetooth card is inserted into the PC Card slot of your computer, and that
the Bluetooth software is installed.
2. Activate the Bluetooth connection in your phone. Go to Menu, open the Connectivity
folder and select Bluetooth. If you are using Bluetooth for the first time, you are asked to
give a Bluetooth name to your phone. Write a name (max. 30 letters) or use the default
name ‘Nokia 6600’. Then select Bluetooth On.
3. Activate DUN or FAX profile in the Bluetooth software. After this, activate Bluetooth
device discovery from the Bluetooth software. For information on how to do these tasks,
refer to the user documentation of the Bluetooth software.
4. If you are connecting your Nokia 6600 to your PC using a Bluetooth connection for the
first time, you need to pair the devices. To pair the devices you need to enter a passcode
to both devices. Create your own passcode (1-16 characters long, numberic) and enter
the same passcode to both the phone and the PC when requested. This passcode is
used only once and you do not need to memorise it. For further information, refer to the
Nokia 6600 User’s Guide.
5. Authorise the connection between your Nokia 6600 and your PC. Select Yes when the
connection request appears on the phone’s display. You can set your PC as authorised,
which means that connection between your phone and your PC is made without separate
authorisation. To do this go to the Paired devices view on your phone, scroll to the
device and select Options. Select Set as authorised.
6. In Nokia Modem Options, select the appropriate Bluetooth modem for your phone and
choose the connection settings which are appropriate for the type of modem use that you

You can use your phone with a variety of commercially available data and fax
communications applications. When configuring a data or fax application, you must select
your phone as the modem. Depending on whether you want to use a Bluetooth connection or
an infrared connection, you can select either Nokia 6600 Bluetooth or Nokia 6600 IrDA as
the modem.
Note: When you use your phone for making data or fax calls, the infrared
connection is available for Windows 98/Me/2000/XP only.
Note: Since Bluetooth devices communicate using radio waves, your phone and
the other Bluetooth device do not need to be in line of sight. The two devices only
need to be within a maximum of 10 metres of each other, although the connection
can be subject to interference from obstructions such as walls or from other
electronic devices.
There may be restrictions on using Bluetooth devices. Check with your local
authorities.
You can start Nokia Modem Options from the Control Panel:
Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
In the Control Panel, double-click Nokia Modem Options.
You can change data call settings even when your phone is not connected to the computer.
Please refer to the Nokia Modem Options Help for information on how to set these options.
