Editor Function

Editor
• Editor is a mode of operation in MODEL which enables you to reposition selected items using the mouse.
• Editor can also be activated by double-clicking the item in the 3D view.
• The speed of interactive selection and dragging operations is dependent on both the specification of the hardware being used, and on the
complexity of the model displayed in the 3D View. Generally, it is advisable to minimize the size and complexity of the displayed model in
order to obtain good interactive feedback for the system.
• When using Editor it is recommended that you:
• Displays only the elements that are necessary for the modification that is being performed. As a graphical selection is dragged on the
screen, the display is continuously drawn.
• Avoid using large graphical selections. It may be better to make bulk moves in small groups.
• Avoid drawing the model with high levels of detail. For example, do not display the model with holes drawn; do not use a fine arc
tolerance.
• Avoid drawing the model with P-Points switched on.
• The way Editor modifies depends on if the item is a Routed item or a Non-Routed Item.
• Routed Item For example Piping, HVAC , Cable trays can be modified and repositioned using Editor.
• Non Routed Item
• When clicking Non-Routed items, grips are used to edit them. Different grips are activated depending on the item selected.
• The Colour and size of the grips can be changed to suit individual working environments. The grip Colours can be set to different colours for
each state they are in, Active (default Red), Idle (Default Cyan) and Selected (Default Green)
• As an item is edited a ghost image of the result is displayed.
Editor
• Types of Grips
• Cone Grip :- A cone grip is used in several ways depending on the item Selected. The movement of the cone is constrained according to the
shape of the item. A cone grip on a Gensec is used to reposition the endpoint or midpoint of an item.
• On a Panel cone grip is used to fillet a corner. On a box or a cylinder in Equipment cone grip is used to extend height and to set absolute
height and spawn height.
• Extension Height:- Height from One End (Remaining the
• Existing Height as same)
• Absolute Height:- Effects Total Height from Start Point.
• (Increases height from Other End Not from Start Point)
• Symmetric Height:- Increase Height from both Ends
• Spawn Height:- Creates another Cylinder for the Spawn
• Height
• Hemisphere Grip :- A hemisphere grip is used to
• Position the endpoint or midpoint of an item. The move-
• Ment of the hemisphere is not constrained.
• Sphere Grip:- A sphere grip is used to move an item
• Or position, items endpoint or mid point without
• Constraint.
• Click on sphere and either drag the sphere to its
• New position and enter a value.
Editor
• Cube Grip:- A Cube Grip is used to move an item without constraint.
• Arrow Grip:- An arrow Grip is used to Rotate an item
• Cross Grip:- An Cross Grip is used to create a new vertex position on an item.
• Chamfer Grip:- An Chamfer grip is used to create a chamfer on the corner of an item.
Editor - Controls
• Access through Tools → Controls
• Pick through Translucent:- Toggle translucent pick On/Off.
• When clicked on, a piece of equipment, for example can be selected through a steel
• Plate and made the current element, if the steel plate has been set as translucent.
• Feature Highlight:-
• After making a graphical selection in Editor mode, activating Feature Highlighting
• Identifies features as the pointer passes over them in the graphical view.
• Features are points, straight lines (edges), P-points or P-lines. Points are located at
• Vertices on the model, such as the corner of a box, and at the mid-point of lines.

Editor - Controls
• Increments:-
• Sets the active linear, planar or rotation increments when dragging an item.
• Linear Increments:- Linear increment controls the step size used when dragging a
• Graphical selection using a linear or planar handle. The Default setting is 50mm.
• With the value set at 50mm the element will move in steps of 50mm
• Fine Linear Increment:- Fine linear increment has the same function as the linear
• Increment, but with a default step size in 5mm.
• Hole Left mouse button and Press UP Arrow and Down Arrow.
• Angular Increment:- Angular increment controls the angular step size used when dragging a graphical selection using a rotation
• Handle.
Editor - Controls
• Drag Image
• During a drag operation using the Locator Handle, an image of the Graphical Selection follows a constrained path defined by the current
mouse pointer position. You can change the appearance of the item when it is being dragged by selecting either Solid, Translucent or
Wireframe from the list. With large graphical selections, the Translucent or Wireline operations enables slightly quicker Drag operations
than the Solid style.
Editor – Manipulate View
• Feature Highlight will disable Power compass and Power Wheel.
• Zoom To and Walk to
• Selection:- Selected graphical element zooms to fill the view.
• Identify Element:- Centre's the view on an identified element in the
• Graphics, and zooms the view such that the identified element fills the
• View.
• Entire Drawlist:- Centers the view on the centre point of the drawlist
• And zooms the view so that all the elements in the display list fill the
• View.
• Look Changes the orientation of the view to a preset view North,
• South, East, West , Up or Down
• Plan Changes the orientation of the view to a preset view, North, South,
• East or West
• Isometric Changes the orientation of the view to a preset isometric view
• Iso 1, Iso 2, Iso 3, Iso 4
• Set Centre of view
• Selection Centres the view on the graphical selection
• Identify Element Centres the view on a picked Element
• Screen Pick Centres the view on a picked position within the view.
• Cancel Returns to its original state.
Editor
• Item-Specific Selection Operations
• Item-Specific selection operations can be found on some plant items.
• Select Instrument, Leg, Connected, Branch, Pipe Options will exist on the Feature
• Highlight.

• It is easy to Shift from Pipe Editing to Model Editing.

GCM
• Graphical Component Modification (GCM)
• Graphical component modification (GCM) enables you to use the mouse to move and rotate a component or a selection of contiguous
components within the constraints of a pipe route.
• GCM is entered automatically when you click on a piping component while in Editor. You do not have to be in the piping application to be
able to use this facility, which enables you to move interactively a component along the legs of a pipe route and to rotate a component
about the tube centerline.
• The following facilities and constraints are available.
• Rotation about tube centre line.
• Constrained positioning along the path of the pipe Route.
• Automatic reorder of the elements within the hierarchy to suit the new position
• Within the pipe route.
• Selection set for GCM
• A Single piping component which does not cause the branch to change direction
• i.e. Component have parallel Arrive and Leave direction
• A sequential set of Piping components which lie within the same leg of a branch, i.e. there is no change in direction or a bad
• Alignment exists in the leg

• Component Modification Handle will not display in the below Case.
