EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Second Year Accountancy students from the University of Mindanao were given a huge opportunity
to experience how would it be like to become a stock trader. Financial Markets is a subject that are
taken by these students and paved a way for them to enjoy in this field and open their mind in this
world through virtual stock trading. Virtual stock trading gains popularity among people who want
to practice and develop their trading skills before entering into the true market world. This
opportunity aims to broaden the knowledge and skills of the students about the stock markets. It
would help them to have a better understanding regarding with the current situation of the market.
And this will not become possible without the help of First Metro Sec of Metrobank, a brokerage
firm. The firm offered and introduced this type of stock trading to them as a training ground in
order for the students not to be too surprise when they will be in the actual situation in the future
and apply what they have learned about Financial Markets.

In connection, students were given P100,000 virtual money as a start up capital to invest into any
corporate stocks available in the trading platform. This is to test out new techniques and ideas of the
students for them to become equipped and learn more about financial market. This project was
given a month ago, starting from July until August 2019. In a four week virtual trading, students
required to must have at least three, and at most four stocks in their portfolio and be able to buy and
sell at least five times. At the end of this almost month long trading the students are expected to
have a wider understanding about buying and selling stocks and what are the strategies to apply.

In general, virtual stock trading uses virtual money, a risk of having a loss is not a problem, but
playing this "game" is still not going to be easy, especially for beginners and first timers who are
clueless about the idea of the whole stock trading process. Despite of these facts, the instructor
guide the students and helped them to survive along with this not too long but complex journey. The
purpose of this requirement is to make most out of the accountancy students' capability on how to
manage different transactions inside the business. This will act as a guideline for them to become
ready in a much complicated world of the business industry. This will hopefully make them realize
some things that they have done and wish to correct it.

II. INTRODUCTION
Stock trading has been widely known and used by anyone nowadays. People were attracted to enter
in the market because the trading can take place easily through internet. They can earn money
without being hassle just by sitting, resting or watching tv. The trader has been hearing all about this
beforehand, but she's not really interested on giving it a try because she's not a risk-free type of
person. When this requirement was introduced to them, it honestly worries her a lot. She has
literally no idea how it worked and she's afraid she might fail and won't do good. In spite of, all
these worries she managed to take the challenge and established her own investment strategies. Her
strategy was to looked for the price first, if the company offers lower price for their stocks. And
search if the company has a stable market condition. Since, she has been worried to take a risk on
buying a stock it obviously affected her buying decision as it hinders her to buy a potential stock
because of its high price.

As expected, this provides the market's current situation. It was observed that there was a constantly
change in the movement of stocks and there were times that indicate losses which drive the trader
into the conclusion that the economy is not as stable as she thought it could be.

As this requirement was clearly introduced and explained, even with all the concerns that she's been
having. Someway, somehow, she has high hopes and expectations that she will earn and gain profit
from this stock trading and be able to test her trading skills and hopefully be able to get a real
account. She believed that she has to aim for the best to have the best and set aside the negativity
because this always brings everything into a not so good outcome.

In addition to that, there are various investment strategies that should be used in trading a stocks.
Here are the three commonly used out of them. First is research a trader must examine variety of
investment options to find products that fit the his/her established strategy. Second, select
investments, a trader must pick the right option and potential stock to purchase. Third, monitor,
meaning changes in a trader’s tactics should be evaluate frequently to avoid risk.

2
III. ANALYSIS
The stock trader chose stocks from CAT- Central Azucarera De Tarlac and ABSP- ABS-CBN
Holdings Corporation, because they offer not too high and not too low prices. It is very attractive to
traders like her who avoids too risky situation. She's very cautious about her actions because she's
afraid she might choose the wrong move and regret everything after all. That's why she classifies
her stock as conservative because it never escaped from its comfort zone. It always plays safe,
never took a very risky move and settled on what she has and believed that it will work.

During the trading, the trader wasn't able to used any news media and made most of her decision
through guts or whatever she thinks a good potential stock that will lead her in the way to her
success.
Due to some technical issues, she only bought two stocks. Between that two stocks, her best
performing would be from CAT because she managed to sell it, but unfortunately, it did not reflect
in her trading history, and she has no idea why did it happened. And that lead us to her least
performing stock which what was left, stock from ABSP it provides a total ROI investment of -
34.94%.
ABSP did not provide any information regarding with its 3 year stock, chart and company’s
worksheet because their last transactions took placed last 2009.

IV. OVERALL SUMMARY

This whole stock trading game has taught the trader few things. This has taught her that earning
money whether it is in virtual or real stock trading will never be an easy thing. A good stock trader
requires to take a risk along with a good plan and techniques in mind. This also requires active,
aggressive and cautious characteristics to achieve strategic goals. The trader have learned that a
good trader must be responsible by constantly monitor the situation in the market and the condition
of its stocks. It needs long patience and strong determination to prevent frustration that it is giving,
because of the constant fluctuation in the exchange of stocks and troubled internet connection. It
widens her knowledge about how stock trading worked and acquired some strategies. She thought
she could have done better, but regrets will never comes at first and made her realize give her very
best the next time around.
Entering in this kind of market would be difficult but the trader herself still believe that she'll earn
profit and accomplish her goal but she did not do her responsibility and failed to do so. In result,
she has loss few amount of money and has a total return on investment amounting to -34.94%.

3
The trader was not satisfied on her performance regarding with this whole process because she took
everything for granted. She knew she didn't give her best and did not pay much attention on
monitoring it everyday. She obviously didn't succeed on earning a profit and turn everything into a
loss. So to make things right, she will plan to try it once again, still through virtual stock trading and
be more prepare and more knowledgeable. She also wants to test her capability to be able to use
true money to earn and gain profit in the near future.
Despite all of these negative actions and effects that has gone through during this project. Mia
Sheca Agan, the stock trader herself, still managed to enjoy the game and learned many lessons that
will serve as an instruction and guide if ever she would really pursue to enter in the real world of
stock trading.
