Course Title: Christian Vocation & Commitment to Marriage & Family Life
Course Unit: 3 units
Course Prerequisite: Rel. Ed. 1, 2 and 3

Course Description:

The course seeks to provide an understanding of the true meaning of human sexuality, the sanctity and sacramentality of Marriage, and the family as a domestic church and
seedbed of vocations from the Catholic standpoint.

a) CHRISTIAN VOCATION as a call to Holiness: It gives emphasis on the value and inherent dignity of man “created in the image and likeness of God” as it finds its
relevance and fruition in the different states of life: single-blessedness, consecrated life of priests and the religious, and the married life.
b) Christian MARRIAGE as a Sacrament of COMMITMENT: a vocation and a ministry symbolizing the union and love of the Trinitarian God through an in-depth analysis
of the Goods of Marriage: Sacrament, Conjugal Love & Fidelity and Serving Life: Offspring. Practical helps in communication in marriage preparations may concretize the
students’ understanding on the importance and sacredness of marriage.
c) The Christian FAMILY: The significant role of the Christian family as DOMESTIC CHURCH in building the body of Christ by sharing in the prophetic, priestly, and
kingly missions of the Church.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

The course is ordered to enable the students to:

Doctrine: Understand Christian Marriage as a sharing in the communion of persons & love of the Blessed Trinity and the seedbed of Christian Vocations;
Moral: Respond actively to the call of Jesus Christ to discipleship and manifest in her/his daily life the Christian values of love, fidelity and commitment;
Worship: Pray for the virtues of love and fidelity in one’s vocation: single-blessedness, consecrated celibacy, the religious and marriage; receive the sacraments of
Reconciliation and the Eucharist as a sharing in the partnership of love between Christ and the Church.
