1. Activity No. 1: Letter to Parent

It is not to say that writing an actual letter is impossible, but ever since my Mom left for
abroad, we have always conversed through social media or e-mail. In times of doubt,
whenever I feel down, and when I have committed tragic shortcomings, it is her that I
always go to relieve the stresses that I feel. I see her as the foundation of my being, as she
has not only taught me the ways of life, but also how to live it. That is why, in writing this
letter, I have asked forgiveness I rarely ask from her for all the shortcomings I have
committed, as well as thanked her simply for being the best mom she can be.

2. Activity No. 2: Church Volunteer Work

Reflection:

Fulfilling – that is how I would describe the feeling I felt after a straight six (6)
hours of service I have rendered to the parish of St. Francis of Assissi, General Trias Cavite,
under the careful supervision of Rev. Fr. Innocencio Poblete Jr. and Ma’am Trish. Aside
from them being so welcoming, I also felt their heartfelt compassion towards people in
need. True to their stories, the little kids are happiest in the littlest of things.

Lucky enough, I was able to witness a feeding program that reached out to the
marginalized sectors of the community. I even got to talk to Ate Che who, at that time, was
careful tending her three little kids. She said it’s most fun to be around people who care for
them, but what was most important for her was to let her children see the God that is around
them. “It’s not just food,” she says.

Throughout those hours, I was worriedly thinking about why we were sent to
volunteer in the church. It didn’t make sense, since we were studying undergraduates who
were going after our ambitious dreams, we, ourselves, brought up. However, I have
realized that it’s not just about us anymore. It was never about us. It was about the totality
of the community and the people that we become to put into action whatever it is that we
have learned throughout our stay. I heard some of my classmates actually went to help
during mass, some went out for other missions aligned with the church’s vision, but
whatever it is that we do, so long as this helps those in dire need, is helpful in its own little
ways.
