PRINCIPLE OF COMMUNICATION
NARRATIVE REPORT

Principle of communication is one of the subject that we are taking this semester.
With this, we tackled about amplitude modulation in which we learned something very
important and something that is related to radio station. One of the example that we
learned form that is how do they send out signals, programs and information by the use
of radio and we call it broadcasting. Radio broadcasting is transmission by radio waves
intended to reach wide audience. It provides real time information that can be useful to
everyday life and to learn more about this, we conducted an activity and we go to radio
station to know about it.

We conducted our activity at FEBC (Fast East Broadcasting Company) a local

broadcasting station at Iba Zambales. We Chose FEBC aside from it is near from our
school, it has a two international transmitter sites at Iba and Bocaue. Before we go to
FEBC, we prepared all the needed requirements to allow our school to conduct an
activity and to approve it as legal matters.

We went at FEBC on the 7th day of November 2019, three in the afternoon
(3pm). As a student, I am really excited to go there and to witness how they broadcast.
Before we arrived at the place, we rent a public utility jeep as our transportation vehicle
and we traveled for about 20 minutes. We contributed 30 pesos each students for all the
necessary expenses. We are more than forty (40) students who participated in the said
event. Our instructor Engr. Melissa Manglicmot Ebue and our program chairperson
Gilbert Deboma is also present and give their support in the said event.

It was a successful and overwhelming visit at FEBC. I am truly amazed on how

they do they work to serve the people .
Upon our arrival at FEBC, I was surprise with the cleanliness of their place. The
place is good and clean. But I also noticed that the company has a very limited
employee to facilitate it. The guard opens the gate and entertains us for a while. Engr.
Samuel Ponilas, FEBC transmission manager was the one who welcome us and he
was surprise by the number of students visited their place. He thinks that only few of the
students will come, but we are more than 40 students.

Engr. Ponilas discussed first the history of FEBC. He also included some topics
of our principle of communication subject. I enjoyed the discussion there but I only
thought that it was a brief discussion because I am so excited to see their actual
operation. Engr. Ponilas also discussed the actual problem of actual operation of FEBC.
The radio programs that they are offering are music, news, news program for the
children, news for health and for evangelical. I learned a lot from the discussion that
was shared to us and truly inspired me to know more.

At the end of the discussion, Engr.
Ponilas shown some electronics components
that I normally see in small size but there is a
much bigger version of it, like capacitor and
resistor. The cause of these bigger capacitor
and resistor is much higher than of others.
Some electronics components that they used
was checked from time to time and easily
change before its expiration date to maintain
the quality of service they to people and to
maintain the good and high standards that
they established from the start.

Upon entering at the operation room, I was more amazed and mesmerize at
FEBC not only in the outside but also in the inside. It is also clean and fresh. The inside
operation of it was smooth and organized. It was well arranged and managed by the
company. They make sure that all is well and out of control.

Engr. Ponilas strictly say that we must not

touch anything in the room so we are very careful
not to touch any of the things inside. He also
teach and shown us how to use the tetrode which
cost over 200,000 pesos. It is quite expensive
because it is very big.
We have a project of radio transmitter in Principle of Communication then Engr. Ponilas
shown a big transmitter that they are using. It has many buttons on the transistor with
indicator of its uses.

FEBC Zambales did not offer live broadcast. They only broadcast only recorded
sounds that come from the main office. So there’s no DJ employee on it. Only the
operators, guard and Engineer.

Some of the equipment that is fragile and has a high voltage, there is a warning
sign posted on it so that it will serve as a signal that everyone should be careful in
handling and operating this equipment. The air ventilation is good and there is armony
in the operation. When we go outside, we’ve seen the Balun that Engr. Ponilas
discussed to us. The tower can be also seen that support the transmission line of
FEBC.

After the visit, I was satisfied by the way they accommodate us and help us to be
knowledgeable about broadcasting. I can fully say that the FEBC has a good
management.
