ABSTRACT
Acetilide is an aromatic acetyl amine derivative compound classified as primary
amide, where one hydrogen atom in aniline is replaced by an acetyl group. The
purpose of this experiment is to study the making of aromatic amide derivatives
through the reaction of primary amines, with carboxylic acid derivatives, namely
anhydrous acetic acid. The experiment was carried out by mixing 8.2 ml
anhydrous acetic acid with 7.7 ml aniline in a boiling flask, then heated at a
temperature of 78 oC - 80 oC in a water bath while rocking. The mixture is cooled
and added with 60 ml of distilled water. After that the crystallization process with
ice cubes is carried out for 30 minutes. The precipitate formed is filtered with a
vacuum pump and a buchner funnel, then the crystals are inserted into the
erlenmeyer and recrystallized. The mass of acetanilide obtained in four times
recrystallization was 2.81 grams with a yield of 31% and a moisture content of
51.97%.
