Instructor Spot Light

Welcome to the latest issue of the Lifelong Learning

Center catalog! I’m Kathy Eyster and I teach
photography classes and a Digital Photography
Certificate Program.
I bought my first film camera before a backpacking
trip into the Grand Canyon and was soon devouring
any books and magazines I could find to improve my
picture-making skills. Since then I’ve learned to use
a variety of cameras, film and digital.
When digital cameras first came out, I watched
people struggle with the increased complexity of the
new models. All the buttons and menus give us the
flexibility to make amazing pictures, but they can
also be overwhelming to beginners and experienced film camera pros alike.
Digital cameras provide us with an amazing aid to learning photography:
the screen on the back of where we can immediately check the results! No
more waiting to have the film processed before knowing how the picture
turned out. It’s easy to experiment, try new angles or camera settings, and
play with “what happens if I do this?” scenarios. There is no penalty for
shots that don’t turn out. Just delete and try again.
If you have always wanted to know more about your camera, how to take
great pictures or just edit the ones you already have, check out our great
class selection!

Kathy Eyster
