David Shrigley - Problem In Toulouse

Printemps De Septembre 2019 ISBN 9782956551409 Acqn 29494
Pb 11x18cm 164pp 38ills 18col £14.50

At the heart of British artist David Shrigley's practice are his combinations of awkward drawings
and satirical commentaries highlighting the tragicomedy of ordinary situations. But he has often
also collaborated with musicians. As part of the 2016 edition of the Printemps de septembre, he
designed a tailor-made project for the Institut superieur des arts de Toulouse by providing
everything needed to organise a music festival: instruments, stage set, rehearsal studio, and
posters, all designed by him. He also wrote down the words to 31 songs that the guest musicians
could freely use. These texts are reproduced in this book with French translations, along with
exhibition views and an interview.

The Unexpected Subject - 1978 Art And Feminism In Italy

Flash Art Publishing 2019 ISBN 9788894154085 Acqn 29906
Pb 18x24cm 216pp col ills £30.50

The Unexpected Subject. 1978 Art and Feminism in Italy recounts the Seventies as a key phase
in the history of Italian art of the 20th century, during which the spread of feminist thinking
stimulates a new critical awareness that encourages many female artists, curators and art
historians to rethink their role in society, life and art. Starting from a symbolic date, 1978, the year
in which Mirella Bentivoglio presents more than 80 female artists at the exhibition
Materializzazione del linguaggio on the occasion of the 38th Venice Biennale, the catalogue
rereads the decade to focus on the close link between artistic practice and feminism. The stories
and artworks of the female protagonists of that season testify to the emergence in the scene of
history of a new subject (an unexpected subject) that, interrupting "the monologue of patriarchal
culture", finally manages to manifest itself.

Spectre Numero 2 - Vegetal Trauma

Cosa Mentale 2019 ISBN 9782955701096 Acqn 29920
Pb 25x31cm 216pp col ills £46

Plants feel the pressures, constraints, and violence of the world around them. Our irresponsible
behaviour towards plants only increases the trauma they suffer. Being rooted and deeply
sedentary beings, plants have no choice but to endure and adapt. Their lives are made up of
successive aggressions which they remember, the violence of which they have to overcome in
one way or another. Plants bear the traces and stigmas of the trauma that comes from a living
environment from which they cannot escape. This unedited issue of 'Spectre' invites more than
30 contemporary artists to share interpretations of vegetal trauma, from pruning, graffiti, or
neglect, to wildfires, wind, or ice.

Wade Guyton (Trembley Edition)

Les Presses Du Reel 2019 ISBN 9782378960674 Acqn 29935
Hb 17x24cm 240pp col ills £42

A new monograph on Wade Guyton, considered one of the most influential representatives of the
recent generation of artists who produce images in the digital era. Although some of his works
question the structure and language of painting in the traditional sense, they still radically modify
codes and modes of production. Guyton's paintings are realised by putting canvases through
huge inkjet printers, sometimes several times, to print the motifs and colours that appear. Errors,
drips, and misprints are part of the composition process, and ensure unique results. Featuring
over 30 new works produced specifically for a large-scale curatorial project, as well as a critical
essay by Tristan Garcia.

Hans Bloesch / Paul Klee - Das Buch, A Joint Project From The Years 1902 To 1904
Nimbus 2019 ISBN 9783038500650 Acqn 29992
Pb 21x30cm 334pp col ills £47.50

Paul Klee and Hans Bloesch became friends in their early school days, and their bond lasted
more than four decades, until Klee's death in 1940. The pair first began their artistic enterprises in
the graduation newspaper 'Die Wanze' (1898) and the satirical 'Model Citizen' (1908). Yet it has
only recently come to light that there was another joint project in those early days, 'The Book'.
Klee created satirical drawings in Italy and Munich, and Bloesch, inspired by his friend, fabricated
mocking verses to accompany them. This volume includes the complete pages of the original as
a facsimile, a transcription of the texts, and two essays on the project's genesis by Osamo Okuda
and Reto Sorg.

Valentine Schlegel - Je Dors, Je Travaille

Future 2019 ISBN 9782956007807 Acqn 29891
Pb 19x28cm 224pp col ills £42
Text in French

Now in its third edition, this catalogue offers a unique insight into the life and work of the French
artist, sculptor, and ceramist Valentine Schlegel. It features a large iconography, archives, and
texts by sculptor and Schlegel specialist Helene Bertin. Originally published in 2017 on the
occasion of an exhibition at CAC Bretigny, it forms a fitting tribute to Schlegel, who can be
considered one of the most important ceramists of 1950s. She conceived her works as sculptures
inspired by nature, primitive but sophisticated at the same time. An extensive look at her sculpted
interiors and architectural elements in plaster, especially the numerous fireplaces she created, is
also featured.
