PROJECT ACTORS
Porto Marghera is today a mix of different and con-
trasting realities: new hi-tech buildings are put side
by side with the scheletons of old industries and
container deposits. Many initiatives have been im-
plemented to make the situation better, the last of
which was the Accordo di programma per la bonifi-
ca e la riqualificazione ambientale del sito d’interesse
nazionale di Venezia e Porto Marghera (Agreement
for the reclaiming and environmental requalification
of Venezia and Porto Marghera). The Comune
and local administration have confirmed with the
PAT (Plan for the territory) the industial vocation
of the area to attract both companies and workers.
Since the area is polluted and abandoned,
we expect to work a lot with local and re-
gional administrative funds, as well as nation-
al and european scale ones. (to get more jobs)
we expect to be able to obtain sponsorships
from the art and architecture oriented local asso-
ciations, the university as well as the superintend-
ency?? for the cultural heritage, as the structure
in the area are protected as heritage buildings

LEGO
PARTNERSHIP

OUR MISSION IS TO MAKE ALL
LEGO® BRICKS SUSTAINABLY BY 2030.

WHY?
BECAUSE BEING SUSTAINABLE IS
GOOD FOR THE PLANET! WE WANT
TO MAKE BRICKS OUT OF THINGS
THAT WE CAN GROW AGAIN OR ARE
RECYCLED. THIS IS NOT EASY AS WE
WANT SUSTAINABLE LEGO BRICKS TO
HAVE THE SAME HIGH QUALITY THAT
YOU ARE USED TO, BUT WHAT WE
KNOW IS THIS:

BIG IDEAS MAY START SMALL,

BUT THEY WILL HELP US BUILD

A GREENER PLANET ONE BRICK
AT A TIME
GAP ANALYSIS: IMPACT STUDY
GAP ANALYSIS: ALIGNMENT OF INTEREST

For this project we focused on studying the stakehold-

ers with respect to their involvement on our project
in its different phases, and also study their alignment
of interest with respect to the other stakeholders.

From the first we infer that in the initial phases

of the project, there is more involvement of the
financers and the partners of our business, while
in the later stages we see a deeper involve-
ment of the local people related to our project.
AMOUNT OF INTEREST

From the second we see that there is a wide

gap between the range of interests of our major
stakeholders. While the financers and partners
are more focused on monetary improvements and
business aspects of the project, the local people
involved in the project wish to see an improvement
in the state of Porto Marghera over the course of
time. At the same time, we notice a large gap

in the concept is low among both, residents and
workers, as well as some of our financer groups.

We at Politain aspire to bridge these large

gaps with atmost care and dream to devel-
op a better sense of circularity amongst people.

DEVELOPMENT
The area was first acquired in 1924 by the
main Italian chemicals company Montecatini.
Montecatini started off as a mining com-
pany but soon expanded toward the pro-
duction of superphosphate fertilizers.
The Marghera plant became one of the
most productive of the entire company
and was entirely rebuilt after 1960, main-
ly using prefabricated concrete structures.
The paraboloid shaped buildings were the big-
gest in Italy at the time. It was closed and
abandoned in1997 and in 2009 many of
the smaller buildings were demolished and
the land was mostly reclaimed. Today the
only surviving part of the original con-
struction are its iconic parabolic arcades.
