JOB TITLE: Primary Care Physician- Internal Medicine

DEPARTMENT: Health Services

REPORTS TO: Medical Director

SUPERVISES: Staff Physicians and Mid-level Practitioners

COORDINATES WITH: All department officers and directors

JOB SUMMARY

Serving patients advocate in making arrangements for the use of the entire health
care system to the benefit of patients. Builds relationship with their patients, listens,
and responds to their needs, and also makes appropriate recommendations to help
them optimize their health.

ESSENTIALS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develop a roster of patients by providing compassionate, holistic care.

2. See patients daily in the office and visit them in hospital settings when
required
3. Maintain accurate and detailed medical records about each patient, including
observations during examinations.
4. Comply with all laws applicable to internal medicine, including HIPAA.
5. Prescribe medication or therapy when necessary.
6. Recommend lifestyle changes as appropriate to improve quality of life.
7. Explain all medical procedures thoroughly.
8. Explain test results and provide patients with plan of care details.
9. Consult with other doctors about each patient’s specific needs.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

1. Good communication skill. In a bid to carry out accurate and precise

diagnosis, and to be able to get needed information from patients, the
physician must be able to communicate effectively (especially listening).
2. Must have excellent interpersonal skills so as to enable patients to warm up to
him/her and generally help to make treatment easier.
3. Must be able to work as part of a team if need be.

4. Must have the attention to detail necessary to cover all possible diagnosis
possibilities in a limited time.
5. Proven experience as a physician.
6. Strong understanding of examination methodologies and diagnostics.
7. Broad knowledge of common medication, side effects and contraindications.
8. In-depth knowledge of legal medical guidelines and medicine best practices.
9. Responsible and trustworthy.

ABILITIES NEEDED

 Ability to work with little or no supervision

 Ability to pay attention to details
 Good reasoning and decision-making ability
 Must be someone that exercises patience even in the most gruesome
circumstance.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Must have graduated from an approved medical school.

 Must have license to practice within a given locality.
 Must have completed an approved residency in the specialty.
 Current and valid state medical license required.
 No board sanctions or actions in last 10 years.
 3+ years’ experience as practicing internist or primary care physician.
 Must have a minimum of 2 years work experience in a similar role or capacity
