Baker Jasmine Cho, 35 years old,
started baking in highschool. Now she is
making a change in justice. Jasmine started
making cookies with messages in them
promoting social justice. The cookies
usually have someone extremely important
like Michelle Obama, who was on her latest
cookie. Cho decided to make an online
bakery in 2015. She named it
Yummyholic.com​ . After a few years, she
made a bakery for order pick ups. She has
one bakery in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is
where she was born and raised.
Now she has made the cookies into
cakes and cupcakes. Writing social news in
icing and making quotes to inspire young
children and to teach them about society.
She fell in love with her job at the age of 22.

Nationals Win 1st World Series Title

On October 30th the Washington
Nationals defeated a two-run shortage,
rocking the Houston Astros 6-2 to win the
first title in franchise history. The Nationals
became the first wild-card team to win the
World Series since the Giants in 2014. The
Nationals, who came into the season as
heavy underdogs, won the first two games in
Houston. This is the first time in World
Series history that the underdogs have won.
Nationals pitcher Stephan Strasburg
was named World Series MVP. In games 2
and 6, he won both of his starts. He truly
helped the Nationals get what they have
been waiting 95 years for, to win the World
Series. The Astros and Nationals will play
an open exhibition game with a World
Series rematch on February 22.

The Sunday After Thanksgiving This Year
to be the Busiest Air Travel Day in History

Holidays are always hot travel times,
but this year, the Sunday after Thanksgiving
is expected to be the biggest air travel day in
history. More people will hit the skies on
this day than any other day. Around 26.8
million Americans are expected to fly,
which is 4% busier than last year. According
SmarterTravel, this is the day you should
definitely avoid this Thanksgiving holiday.
People will not only be traveling by air
though, according to Elite Daily, Sunday’s
traffic will also be above average. Although
not as much as the Wednesday before
Thanksgiving, it will still cause plenty of
traffic jams on highways and in large cities.
Taking this into consideration, don’t forget

understand what addiction is

Sesame Street has a new opinion
about addiction. Data shows that 5.7 million
children under the age of 11 live in a
household with parents or guardians that
struggle with an addiction, but things have
gotten worse over the years. The
Department of Health and Human Services
is a government group that helps protect
Americans’ health. It reported that 10.3
million people died everyday from a drug
related overdose. Kama Einhoen works at
Sesame Workshop making new episodes of
the show. “There’s nothing else out there
that addresses substance abuse for young,
young kids,” she said. It’s also a chance to
show adults a way to explain what they’re
going through, to kids. Karlis’ voice and
manipulator is Haley Jenkins, Karli is the
name of Haleys’ puppet. Haley helps kids
understand what addiction is. Karli tells
kids it's a sickness, and parents need to
smoke or drink alcohol to feel ok.

T​hirteen Year Old Boy Opens Bakery to
Give Back to the Homeless.

Michael C. Platt had been inspired
by Toms shoes because at Toms for every
pair of shoes sold, Toms gives a pair of
shoes to people in need. In honor of that
Michael had started a bakery called
Michaels Desserts. For every cupcake that is
sold the money would go towards buying
food for the homeless.With all the money
twice a month Michael goes around
Washington D.C and passes out goodies.
Michael is now 13 years old and still does
what he loves.When Michael started his
business 2 years ago his parents helped him
purchase the items now with all the money
he has earned he takes the remaining money
to buy the supplies.Now his business is
better than ever.

The New Ocean Clean Up Device

There is a group of people that call
themselves the Ocean Clean Up. This Dutch
group that was started by a very young
inventor named, Boyan Slat.This
organization started last year, and they
started testing Boyans ideas, he had the idea
to make a floating bearer that would collect
plastic and them the plastic could be
removed. People didn't believe that the idea
would work, but he wanted to prove them
wrong. The group identified the problems
and fixed them, the System 001 is now in
the ocean and has showed that it can rid the
ocean of plastic.
The Ocean Clean Up found out that
80 percent of the oceans plastics came from
surrounding oceans about 1000 oceans in
total, so they decided to try and stop the
plastic from even going into the ocean. They
did this by making a boat that uses the ocean
motion. Then it uses a special arm to push
the plastic to the boat. Next, the boat uses a
conveyor belt to pull up the plastic and
separates the plastic into six different
containers. The boat can sense if the
containers are full and if a new container is
needed.

Common Natural Disaster Discovered

Earthquakes and hurricanes are
dangerous natural disasters on their own, but
what if you were to mash them together?
Not much, surprisingly,as several scientists
found out when they discovered this natural
disaster, which is less disastrous than it’s
name suggests. Scientists call them
stormquakes, and they’re quite common.
During a hurricane, the seafloor can
shake like a magnitude 3.5 earthquake, and
the shaking can last several days.
Stormquakes can hardly hurt you, mostly
because they take place several miles away,
and no one stands on the seafloor during the
quake. How do the quakes happen? The
storms begin them. Hurricanes create large
waves on the surface of the water, and in a
few select places, they interact with the
seafloor. The quakes only happen where
there is a continental shelf, and shallow, flat
land. The continental shelf is an area of
seabed around a large chunk of dry land,
hence, continental. The shelf is usually flat.
Teams found 14,077 stormquakes in
between September 2006 and February
2015, making them more common than
almost any other natural disaster, save
thunderstorms. Special military equipment is
required to spot them. In conclusion, there’s
more to be seen if you look with sonar, and
waves are cool, especially when you ad
earthquakes to them.

Drawing Can Help Reduce Stress

Learning to control your emotions
when you are youth is hard for some people.
In recent studies, drawing can help a kid
show what they are feeling. Drawing can
help people relax, and overall be alot
happier. People have many emotions that
they sometimes do not understand. Peoples
emotions vary from mad, sad, and many
other emotions. Brooklyn College ran a
few experiments to test out how drawing can
affect your mood. They had three groups
that they tested. The kids all had about 5
minutes to draw what they felt. At the end
of the test many said they felt better; Also
they saw a bigger number of better moods
with people who were able to free draw.
There are also other ways to relieve stress
like: dancing, music, and expressive writing.
So keep this in mind when you are stressed
and need to get a quick mental break from
reality.

using virtual reality(VR) to put students with
autism in real life police situations. They are
using the VR from a computer system that
makes the students feel like they are in a real
situation. They are doing this to train
students with autism about real situations
with police. This has started a debate
between cities. One city says that it’s the
police's job to be trained and not the kids.

white kids but might not work for black

University studied and found out that by the

Charles Rogers Dies

Former Detroit Lions and Michigan
State football player Charles Rogers has
died at age 38. Charles Rogers played at
Michigan State from 2000-2002. There he
broke several records while playing football.
After two years in East Lansing, he was
drafted No. 2 overall in the 2003 draft.
Charles Rogers was only the fourth Spartan
player to be picked second overall in the
NFL Draft history. He was the Detroit Lions
first-round pick in the NFL Draft. He played
three years for the Lions and was released
by the Lions in 2006 after he failed multiple
drug tests and questions of work ethic. The
cause of his death is currently unknown. His
funeral will take place in Charles’s
hometown of Saginaw, Michigan.

released a new recipe .This recipe claims to
be the first to add the whole cocoa fruit not
just the cocoa bean. Using the whole cacao
fruit provides a more fruity punch flavor

healthier products that are kind to the earth.
The cocoa fruit consists of the cocoa

 New Change for Pizza Hut Boxes

Pizza Hut has changed the size
of their pizza boxes from big, bulky square
boxes to circular boxes that fit to the size of the
pizza. Pizza boxes have changed many times
before, for example, they have added miniature
plastic platforms to keep the top of the box from
sticking to the cheese on the pizza. Also, they
added a vent the keep the air flowing around in
the box and adding cup holder like spots in the
box for ranch, garlic butter or marinara sauce.
This new box style is meant to improve its uses.
The round pizza box shape means there is less
wasted cardboard, so now it is better for the
environment, considering it is made of fiber.
That means this can be composted. This new
box has ridges on the bottom and grooves on the
top. This prevents the pizzas to not slip and slide
around in a car or deliveries. The grooves also
help catch the grease and move air to prevent
soggy crust. Pizza Hut’s new box is an amazing
upgrade for pizza box history.

Great Lakes Water Level Expected To Rise

In the past year, the water levels of
Lake St. Clair and Lake Huron have been a
problem for waterfront residents. In 2019,
water levels have risen a considerable
amount, and are expected to become even
more of a problem next year. Compared to
last November, Lake Huron has risen over
17 inches, This dramatic water level
increase is due to excessive rain and snow.
In September to October, Lake
Huron water levels usually decline. But, this
year, they have risen about five inches. Over
winter, if the lake freezes to considerable
amounts, winter flooding will also be a risk.
On November 13, a St. Clair public
open house was scheduled. At the meeting,
the FEMA spoke to homeowners, surveyors,
realtors, and other people about the issue.

 The Three Antlered deer

In Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, a
former lawmaker captured a picture of a
three antlered white tailed deer. The deer
was with his girlfriend when the picture was
taken. The deer was seen five days before
gun season started. When Steve Edwards, a
veterinarian, checked out the deer, he said
the deer was very healthy. He thinks that the
deer probably had a genetic mutation while
the embryo was in the mother. It was said
that this does not happen very often, and it is
a very interesting sight to see.

Facebook's Feed Needs To Focus On

The social media website, Facebook
is getting some complaints on the feed.
People from all over the world are protesting
that they see these total strangers feeds and
not their family and friends feeds. Most
people use facebook to see what's going on
in the world, but they also want to know
how there family has been. They get mad
when they see strangers. So Facebook has
been working on personalizing everybody's
feed exactly how they want it. They have
decided to organize the feed as this: The
News Feed is the first page people see when
they get to Facebook. It shows the latest
posts and pictures from friends. It also
shows posts and pictures from celebrities
and businesses people follow. They will
soon be able to switch between family and
news with just a button.
People started complaining about the
bubble effect. When someone text you and
the little bubble pops on your screen. People
were getting annoyed by this. So facebook
will now ask you for permission to show a
bubble when you get texted. With facebook
being updated other apps will be losing
users fast. Because now facebook is better
than some social media apps.

Pennsylvania. She is just like any other
students. She loves talking and hanging out
with her friends. One day Jilly was talking
to her friends, Melanie and Katie and her
teacher Melissa Fanelli, walked by and

responded “Got it”. But Jilly is not actually
in school she is at her house sitting at her

School Lunches in Italy

Italy schools make special food for
some of the students that aren't able to eat
whole grain foods. So not all of the students
have the same diet most are eating food with
no dairy. So many kids have to eat food that
does not have a lot of gluten. Not everyone's
the same, and some people can’t even have
certain product. So many people have
different food that they can eat. Not a lot of
people can eat the same food so all people
aren't the same. Some can not even eat
bread. Some people can be allergic to

allergic. It is good for the school that they

Tasmanian Devil Population Decimated by
Cancer

In 2014, an epidemic was discovered
inTasmania, Australia. Devil facial tumour
disease, or DFT, as some scientists call it, is
decimating the population of the world’s
largest marsupial carnivore, the tasmanian
devil.
The disease first appeared in a deformed
cancerous cell in a female t-devil, and
spread from there. Devils with DFT have
heavily deformed faces, with bloats and
tears in the skin. The disease spreads from
devil-to-devil contact, mostly when devils
fight over food or the cells rub off on each
other as they eat at a carcass. The disease
kills 125 devils per year on average, as well
as other marsupials like brushtail possums,

worked hard to secure the devil’s future. A
cure for the cells has been discovered, and
devils are being saved, but it is a race
against time.
Devils are very important to the ecosystem,
as they work as nature's “cleanup crew”,
eating carrion and removing pests like
brushtail possums, rats, and snakes. Without
t-devils, these critters would run amok,
causing havoc and destruction everywhere.

 Teen Greets his Little Brother Every Day
After School in Costume

Noah Tingle, the seventeen year old
high school senior, waits everyday in a silly
costume for his little brother Max, who is
twelve years old, to get off the school bus.
“Yes, it was embarrassing at first to his
brother, which was the original idea. But
also, it was to make memories,” says USA
Today. Their mom started to video record it
and they were posted on a non-viral
Facebook page called “The Bus Brother.”
Now the Facebook page has more than
15,000 followers. Costumes were donated
from people on the Facebook page and the
other ones have come from friends.. The
first one was Santa Claus, then Chewbacca,
Batman, Where’s Waldo, and counting.
"Knowing I'm going to college next year
and won't see him on a daily basis, I thought
this would make things memorable and
strengthen our bond as brothers,” says Noah.

Earthquakes and Hurricanes Can Come
Together to Create Stormquakes

In 2006 Scientists discovered a new
natural disaster called Stormquakes.
Stormquakes are earthquakes that happen on
the seafloor during hurricanes. Stormquakes
arent very dangerous because they happen
on the seafloor and don't affect the land as
much. Scientists found that 14,077
stormquakes have happened between 2006
and 2015. We haven't noticed them because
they are considered background noises.
Storm Quakes only happen in certain places
like where there's shallower around an

Hope for the Orcas

Orcas are killer whales that hang out
in the waters of Puget Sound, just west of
Seattle. There has been a lack of food. There
are many toxins in the ocean waters, and
noise from the boats have pushed them near
extinction in the Pacific Northwest. “In
August, the Center for Whale Research
announced that three more killer whales
have died since last year. That brought the
total number of orcas in this southern group
to 73.” Says Julia Duin, the author of the
article. If people keep polluting the ocean
waters then not only will the orcas go
extinct, but so will many other ocean
animals.

 Deer Baiting

With hunting season in full force The House
of Representatives on Tuesday narrowly
passed a bill that will repel Michigan’s ban
on deer baiting. This is unlikely to happen
but it’s worth a shot. After so many years,
this could be a huge change in deer hunting
but on the other hand this could also get out
of hand and the deer population could die
out. The law could be passed if the state
approves of this law that might be passed
again. Or this law could be denied by the
court if this comes down to the court
deciding what they want to do about the
situation. “At what point did this Natural
Resources Commission become
lawmakers?” They banned baiting without a
single hearing in the Upper Peninsula. This
show should be over and we should end this
baiting ban once and for all.” said Beau
LaFave. You might not notice but deer are
in danger but, this could also be a help for
the hunters who never get anything while
hunting.

Military Targets YouthTechnology

The US Navy started using xbox
controllers to control a submarine. They do
it on flat screen tvs and computers. They use
an xbox controller to control it. it is
Revolutionizing the military. The milItary is
increasing our weapons by an enormous
amount. They are strong like computers we
have them in our cars.
Like most devices they have
computer systems with global positioning
systems (GPS). This is why our military is
building new technology, like robots that
can fight in most battles. This way a lot of
soldiers do not have to go The military have
been testing it for the last two years and they
installed it on the USS Colorado. Some of
Nevada's Air Force weapons can be used
with iphones and i pads to control the boat.
They want to continue to develop this
technology so the younger generation is
comfortable with the new technology. Most
of the younger generation is into video
games so this may encourage youth to join
the military.
