What is AutoCAD?
• CADD: Computer Aided Design and Drafting.

• Autodesk is an American multinational software corporation that
makes software services for the architecture, engineering,

industries.
• AutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design and drafting
software application.
• AutoCAD was first released in December 1982 as a desktop app
running on microcomputers with internal graphics controllers.

1. 2D Drafting ribbon workspace — customized for those who are familiar with the
AutoCAD ribbon and work primarily with drawing data.
2. Planning And Analysis ribbon workspace — customized for AutoCAD Map 3D
toolsetcommands. Most tutorials and videos assume that you are using this
workspace.
3. Maintenance ribbon workspace — customized for those using an enterprise industry
model. When you open a drawing that uses this model, AutoCAD Map 3D
toolsetprompts you to switch to this workspace.
4. Map Classic — the menu-driven interface from earlier versions of the product. Some
new commands are unavailable from this workspace.
