PROJECT PLAN

EXPRESSION MODULE
CANTE ZEPHIER 11/26/19

DESCRIPTION
I chose to use a website to convey my TEL 111 Philosophy of
Education of my goal as an educator is to be a cultural relatable
teacher to indigenous students. I want to educate, and promote
indigenous knowledge and culture as well as western ideals of
education, while serving indigenous scholars in reservation
communities so that they can revitalize their culture, decolonize their
classroom, and become college ready.

PROJECT MEDIUM (MULTIMEDIA)

I chose to use a website to convey my TEL 111 Philosophy of

Education because of the various amounts of images and text that
could be used. I had never created a website before so I thought
this would be my perfect opportunity to learn the basics of creating a
website using Weebly. Also using a website would be easy to access
anywhere using a link.

POTENTIAL BENEFITS OF MULTIMEDIA

As stated previously, a website could be accessed from anywhere: a

phone, laptop, or computer by the mere click of a link. Not only is it
easy to access, but having a visually pleasing website will attract
more people to view my teaching philosophy. The website can also
feature different topics all relating to my topic: teaching on an Inidan
reservation. So that means providing a section written about Pine
Ridge.

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES OF MULTIMEDIA

Not everyone has access to the internet as well as a way to access it

via phone or computer. I’m unsure of how to fix this situation
because a website isn’t something that can be handed physically. I
could possibly print pamphlets if someone truly wanted to learn
about my philosophy.

DRAFT / COMPLETED PROJECT OUTLINE (OR STORYBOARD)

Replace this text with either a detailed outline or visual storyboard of

what your multimedia expression will be. Your outline or storyboard
should be detailed enough that someone not familiar with your TEL
111 Philosophy of Education or the particular medium you’ve chosen
to express it should be able to read your draft and have a rough idea
of what the finished product will look like. Keep the outline or
storyboard elements simple.

ARTIST STATEMENT
10 years from now I would love to be working on a reservation,
specifically the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. My goal as an
educator is to be a cultural relatable teacher to indigenous students. I
want to educate, and promote indigenous knowledge and culture as
well as western ideals of education, while serving indigenous
scholars in reservation communities so that they can revitalize their
culture, decolonize their classroom, and become college ready.
American Indian students have a unique relationship to education
unlike any other race. Because of the recent history of residential
boarding schools-the government mandated assimilation of native
people into white society by the forceful stripping of language and

2
culture- Indigenous students often have resentment towards the
education system, or simply cannot thrive in the classroom
environment. Native students on the reservation are usually taught
by non-Native individuals who normally do not stay for more than 2-3
years in that teaching position. Most teachers do not stay because
they are unable to relate to the students culturally and do not
understand the daily struggles that indigenous students go through.
Because of this, having native teachers teach native students will
play a key role in student success.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS (OPTIONAL)

This project was actually quite fun to create, because I felt as if I
was a teacher creating a website that could be shared with future
parents and students, as well as future employers.

Hey it’s Kevin, just wanted to let you know that you are doing a
good job. I'm so proud of you :) I love you <3
