A NARRATIVE REPORT ON INFORMING THE BARANGAY 1 AND BARANGAY 9-A ABOUT THE

“WASTONG PAMAMALAHA NG BASURA REPUBLIC ACT 9003 ECOLOGICAL SOLID WASTE

MANAGEMENT ACT OF 2000”
I. INTRODUCTION

RA 9003 was passed by the Philippine Congress on December 20, 2000 and was subsequently
approved by the Office of the President on January 26, 2001. It contains seven (7) chapters sub-divided
into 66 sections setting out policy direction for an effective solid waste management program in the
country.

RA 9003 describes solid waste management as a discipline associated with the control of
generation, storage, collection, transfer and transport, processing, and disposal of solid wastes. The
manner by which these activities are conducted shall be in accord with the best principles of public
health, economics, engineering, conservation, aesthetics, other environmental considerations, and
public attitudes. The Act provides for a comprehensive ecological solid waste management program
by creating the necessary institutional mechanisms and incentives, appropriating funds, declaring
certain acts prohibited, and providing penalties.

II. ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN

Wednesday of September 25, 2019 the first day of our 2 day activity on informing the citizens of
a given barangay about the Republic Act 9003 the first barangay that was assigned to us is the Purok
7 of the Barangay 1 that portion of the barangay is also known as ‘basang hamog’ it’s an alley so it’s
not easy to access part of barangay because its to narrow and only people or a motorcycle can pass
through.

With my partner we conduct a house to house on Purok 7 of Barangay 1 each pair must
accomplish to inform 8 houses about the Republic Act 9003 luckily we easily found houses and the
owners of the house are cooperating with us. And they are happy because they are informed about
the Law that will be effective on October 1 of 2019.

After 3 hours of house to house we manage to inform 9 houses about the act and we are grateful
because they accommodate us well.

Thursday of September 26, 2019 the second day of our activity the barangay 9-A is the one which
assigned to us. Before we start the activity we gather at the Barangay hall of 9-A and 3 councilors of
barangay were there to give some instructions after that we start going to houses there to inform
them about the Republic Act 9003.

Unfortunately We only manage to inform just 3 houses because the Barangay 9-A is not as big as
the Barangay 1 but we are still grateful because our class manage to inform almost each and every
house at the Barangay 9-A.
 III. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

The slight problem that we encountered is some citizens of the barangay’s are not cooperating with
us and sometimes they are ignoring or rejecting us to inform them about the Republic Act 9003.

IV. RECOMMENDATIONS

With the problems that we have encountered each Barangay must inform each households about the
Republic Act 9003 because it’s a law meaning to say the government will give you penalties if you don’t
obey it. And as a Recommendation each barangay must give a seminar about the Law and explain the
importance of it.
