WHAT IS AN ENTREPRENEUR?

Read the following and answer the questions that follow:

Tyrone
Like many young people, Tyrone tried a lot of different jobs before he realized that he needed
to pursue his own dream. He always wanted to be a photographer and once he adopted that
vision, he didn’t waver until he had achieved that goal. Tyrone started his own company and
began developing computer software for photography. Tyrone believes that if you want to
achieve success, you should practice envisioning yourself as a successful person. Tyrone
achieves his greatest satisfaction from accomplishing his goals.

Myrna
Myrna is a health buff, and so are many of her friends. After going on a summer vacation with
her Mom in the countryside, Myrna came up with an idea—an organic leisure park! It’s similar
to an ordinary leisure park with playground and garden. And instead of ornamental trees and
plants, she thought of planting edible organic vegetables and fruit trees, where people can “pick
and pay” for their consumption. Although she didn’t have much money to put towards her new
business venture, Myrna decided to borrow money from the bank in order to lease land from
the city where she lives, and pay for advertising. And being the eco-preneur that she is, Myrna’s
Organic Park uses only organic fertilizers and a system that conserves water. Since Myrna is still
in high school, she works very hard maintaining the park and running her business. But she
wouldn’t have it any other way. She hopes to expand her idea to the neighboring town.

Gayle
As a high school student, Gayle was more interested in Art and English subjects than running a
business. She liked to make things and sew her own clothes. She went to art school, but was
not motivated and went on to work in a bank. But when she was 29, Gayle returned to art
school and this time she set out to make her mark in the world. Today, Gayle is a successful
clothing designer. She credits her success to persistence and to always trying something new,
something different.
