Multiple Gravity Distribution Water Line

Materials:

 Pipes
 Gate valves - 4 pieces for each type of pipe
 Elbow (90o) - 3 pieces for each type of pipe
 Tee - 2 pieces for each type of pipe
 Balloons
 Phones (timer)
 Graduated cylinder
 tape measure

Preparatory Procedure:

1. Prepare all the pipes and other materials needed.

2. Assemble the pipes together with its valves and fittings. One type of pipe at a time. Start
from the tank.
3. Close the gate valve near the tank.
4. Remain the gate valves at the rear portion of each pipe open.
5. Connect the balloon into each valve at the rear portion of the pipe.
6. Fill up the tank with water.

Experimental Procedure:

1. Set the timer to 2 minutes.

2. Open the gate valve near the tank.
3. When time is up, close all the gate valves including the one near the tank.
4. Get the balloon that has water inside.
5. Pour the water into the graduated cylinder.
6. Open the gate valves located at the near end. Drain the remaining water inside the pipe.
7. Fill up the tank to its original water level.
8. Repeat process from step 1 to 7 up to five trials.
9. Disassemble the first pipe material used and assemble a new type of pipe material.
10. Repeat process from Preparatory Procedure step number 1 to step number 9 of
Experimental Procedure.
11. From the experiment, find the volume of the water inside the balloon using the graduated
cylinder and use this to calculate the flow rate.
