1. IEC 870—5—103 communication protocol in protection devices.

Protection devices are equipped with communication connector servicing standard IEC 870—
5—103.
In devices ZCR 4E, ZCS 4E, ZZN 4E there are logically visible two devices in IEC protocol:
first–protection, second–disturbance recorder.
Their IEC address are:
for protection (with event recorder) equal to lower byte C&C's protocol identifier
increased by 1 (one), wchich C&C identifier should be written in hexadecimal;
for disturbance recorder even identifier equal to lower byte C&C's protocol
identifier, wchich C&C identifier should be written in hexadecimal;
Example.
Portection in device ZCS 4E has got address 5003 in protocol C&C BUS, and incorporated
disturbance recorder has got address 5002 in protocol C&C BUS. Adequate hexadecimals are:
identifier 138B)hex for protection with 5003 C&C BUS identifier
identifier 138A)hex for disturbance recorder with 5002 C&C BUS identifier.
In result, protection ZCS 4E has got IEC address IEC 8B)hex, disturbance recorder has got IEC
address 8A)hex.
In devices ZCS 5E, there is logically visible one device in IEC protocol–protection, wchich
address could be set using ZCS 5E's keyboard.

2. Characteristic of protocol implementation.

Physical layer.
In devices ZCR 4E, ZCS 4E, ZZN 4E are used seriall RS 232, RS485 interfeaces; there is
possibility of choosing speed of transmission from 300 to 57600 [bits/s], character format is:
1 bit start, 8 data bits, 1 even parity bit, e.g. 8E1.
In devices ZCS 5E is used only RS 485 seriall interfeace with parametrs as given above.

Trasnsmission speed could be programmed using device's keyboard – for this purpose: select
from device's menu option TRANSFER, press S – it appears menu with selection beetwen
C&C BUS and IEC BUS. Using arrows keys up/down it is possible to change required
transmission speed, and using key N to choose right protocol. Protocol's speed wchich is to be
changed will blink. Selected speed is confirmed with E key.

Link layer.
Special character <0x5e> is not used, negative acknowledgments are short frames (frames
without data).

Application layer.
There has been implemented following appilaction functions (acc. to IEC 870—5—103
norm):
time synchronisation;
command transmission;
general interrogation function;
station initialisation;
There is no generic service, compatibility level lies in mentioned above functions.

Cyclic data—measurements are available via link function nr 11 (request class 2 data), as
ASDU 9, without frequency measurement. For devices ZZN are valid only current
measurements.

Factor of fixed value k is equal k=1,2 for all measurements.

Spontaneous data—Are available via setting bit ACD by protection device in field „Control”
protocol's frame in course of device's polling (reading cyclic data) via link function 10
(request class 1 data).
These data may be, as weell, read using only link function nr 10 (request class 1 data).

Spontaneous data are buffered, nevertheles, it can take place overriding data buffer, then is
information loss, so user appropriate care is read transmision buffer as quickly as it is
necessary.

Fault location, INF=73, ASDU=4 is expressed in Ohms at primary side.

Par example.
For voltage measuring tarnsformers with transformation 1100 and current measuring
tarnsformers with transformation 120, for obtaining identity ASDU=4, INF=73 with value
displayed by protection, it should be divided by number 9.17=1100/120.

Spontaneous data, events, with following codes INF:

160 ÷ 174 inputs state RZK WD1 ÷ WD15

176 ÷ 186 outputs state ZCS WD1 ÷ WD11
192 ÷ 206 internal signals SWE1 ÷ SWE 15

are events about latest change, e.g. are not recorded in events log, and number of recorded
events for all previous mentioned INF–s amounts exactly 1 (one).

Function Type field—sort of protecion, fifth field in ASDU–s units, has got value:

128—for protections type of ZCS, ZCR;

131—for incorporated in ZCS4, ZCR4, ZZN4 disturbance recorder;
160—for protections type of ZZN/S, ZZN/S STER;
192—for protections type of ZZN/RP.

3.Basic application functions.

There were implemented following basic aplication functions:

Time synchronization—
in ZCR 4E, ZCS 4E, ZZN 4E refers to disturbance recorder, in ZCS 5E refers to protection:
time synchronization function is realised as broadcast or with confirmation with ASDU 6.

Station initialization—
refers to protection:
as confirmation of station initialization is returned ASDU 5

General Interrogation function (GI)—
refers to protection:
are available ASDU 1 i ASDU 2 with information numbers INF listed in table in point 4.

Command transmission.
refers to protection:
commands are executed sending ASDU 20 to the device.
