CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

Many people say that love is like a thread that connects

the most diverse people in the world. Love is about what you

feel to the one who give you space in his or her life and make

you special. Love is about loving a person even though he or she

doesn’t love you. Love is not a feeling it is a commitment and

it is decision. There seems to be a wide perception that

students often involve in an early relationship issues most

especially the teens. Some of them are prohibited to engage

within this kind of issue. Parents are so strict especially to

the female ones. In contrast, teens now are so aggressive hence

Catholic Schools are so strict. Early romantic relationship

might give any effects in academic performance of the students.

Love knows no age. Every student can feel at any stage of their

life. They can feel it as early as young or also could be late.

But this love is big thing to discuss, especially to teenagers

who are engaged with romantic relationship. Their academic

performance might be highly affected by this timely dilemma.

THESIS STATEMENT:

This research proposal aims to determine the effects of

early relationship to the academic performance of the students
of Abada College with in this school year 2019-2020.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

This study aims to determine the effects of early

relationship to the academic performance of the students of
Abada College with in this school year 2019-2020.

Specifically it will seek answer the following questions:

 How Early Relationship does affect the academic

performance of the students?
 Does fifty percent of the students are in a
relationship?
 Is there any significant relationship between early
relationship and academic performance of the students?

HYPOTHESIS:

There is no significant effect of early relationship

in terms of the academic performance of the students. There are
no possible effects because few students are only committed with
in this issue, only few students are aware about this.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY:

This study signifies the effects of early relationship

in terms of the academic performance of the students.
SCOPE AND LIMITATION:

This study focuses on the connection between early

relationship in terms of the academic performance of the
students in Abada College with in this school year 2019-2020.

OBJECTIVE/S OF THE STUDY:

The objective of the study is to know the effects of

early relationship in terms of the academic performance of the
students in Abada College.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK:

Effects of Early Relationship in terms of:

Emotional State: Academic Performance:

1. Devastation
1. Focus
2. Stress
2. Participation
3. Low self-esteem
4. Depression 3. Listening
5. Irritation/ Mood
4. Attention
swings
5. Home works

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK:

In May 2015, Kay Ireland states that, teenagers are young

and experienced; while they think that they know what’s best, a
parent can see emotional destruction along before the teen feels
it. This immaturity, both experience and emotion can cause teen
feels it. They are in love when they are in fact infatuated.
This infatuation can cause teens to experience low self-esteem,
devastation and depression when the relationship ends.

A teen may feel pressure to do things that she doesn’t

want to do while in a relationship. A boyfriend may ask her to
go places or do things to propose that she ‘loves’ him, or she
may do things because it seems as if the rest of her friend are
participating. Talking to your teenager about how to say no and
when to leave a situation can help her understand when she is
being pressured. The Guttmacher Institute notes that nearly half
of teens are sexually active, and too often this is the result
of pressure.

A teen relationship, even a casual one, can wreak havoc

on teen’s grades. Spending time with girlfriend and neglecting
home works, or even skipping school together, can take his focus
off the important things and can cause his grades to slip. Teen
should understand that relationship are a privilege, and that
his education comes first too often teens enter into a
relationship before they love themselves, which turns into
depending. Kimberly Kirbeyer, author of ‘Teen love: On
Relationship. A book for teenagers’ Urges tees to learn more
about themselves cultivate their personalities and find their
self-esteem before attempting a relationship. The first love is
with the person that teen sees in the mirror. If she enters a
relationship without that confidence, it won’t be long before
she begins to believe that her worth is only as half of a teen
couple.
CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

According to Lavista Church of Christ, youth is a time of

impatient desires, they want the things available to adults, but
adulthood seems so far away. The typical teenage boys enter
puberty around the age of eleven. The typical teenage girl
enters puberty around the age of ten. Two to three years later
these teens gain the ability to have sexual intercourse, yet the
average for marriage has been gradually delayed to about the age
of 27. Few teenagers are inclined to wait nearly twice their
current age before experiencing sex. But sexual intercourse is
only permitted within marriage (Hebrews 13:4)

For teenagers there is nothing wrong to try and enter in a

romantic relationship. It only becomes wrong for how you handle
your relationship to someone. Remember that love is a decision,
if you will be affected. That was stated also by Lavista Church
of Christ.

Study Mode stated that, today, people can observe that

many students are entering this so called romantic relationship.
On the other hand, the students are spending time with their
lifelong partner, but on the other side, they are busy trying to
fulfill other responsibilities like maintaining grades and
studying. Romantic relationship is one of the most influential
factors to teenager especially junior and senior students. It
affects people’s surroundings like a person’s academic
performance. In February 26, 2012, for many high school students
having a partner is near top of their priority list, and some
individuals may feel left out or even feel like failures if they
are not dating someone by the end of high school. While in the
short term, having a boyfriend or girlfriend can make a high
school student happy feel that they fit in, such a relationship
can have other consequences for the individual which may not
prove as positive.

In February 26, 2014, Lander Abilar studies that high

school can be a time period of many contradictions. At times,
high school students are often unsure of themselves and
impressionable. And other times they think they’re mature enough
to act like adults and be in romantic relationship. However the
reasons for high school teens dating early are not always as
simple as them waiting to acting grown-up.

In May 25, 2015, Kay Ireland states that any high school
teen is teeming with hormones, unrequited love, pressure and
relationships. The teenage years can be confusing to many,
parents included. Some teens fall in love young and curtain
themselves off from other social experiences, whereas some are
still immature, young and still exploring their own development.
When teens are participants in a relationship a variety of
problems can arise that make teens feel pressured, stressed out
and even neglectful of other responsibilities.

Joshua Elevate stated that, many teenagers excel in their

class, because they become motivated to study hard because of
their partner who is considered as a positive result for every
students and teenagers having an early romantic relationship. In
contrast one of the disadvantages of early relationship is that,
it affects their study, they gain lower grades because of their
boyfriends or girlfriends. How ironic that many are said that
having an early romantic relationship helps them to excel in
class, but it also affects their study.
RELEVANCE OF THE STUDY:

Most teenagers of our modern age have a boyfriend or

girlfriend. However because of too much love they feel for each
other it courses for them to enter sexual intercourse and makes
the girl pregnant and thus causing for the both parties to have
early parenting/family, though nowadays there are so many
instances that the boy doesn’t take responsibility of what
happened to the girl. On the other side, there are some
different perspectives among people who are aware and curious
about teenage early relationship. Most of them insisted that
there are effects of early relationship especially in the
academic performance of the students engaged in this. From those
different opinions, the readers will notice some of the effects
of early relationship to the students. It can bring lots of
emotional ups and downs for teenagers especially for the high
school students.

RELATION TO DEMOCRACY:

In relation to democracy, this topic shows the freedom of

the students when it talks about early relationship but the
consequence is that, it brings positive and negative effects
into students’ academic performance. The students are free to
have their engagement in relationship just what democracy has
implied.

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design, the research

instruments, the data gathering procedure, and treatment used in
the study.

The qualitative-descriptive method of research was used in

this study. This study emphasizes what actually exist such as
current condition, relationship, practices, situation or
phenomena. It provides a deeper and better understanding of the
phenomena. It is used to predict and reveal whether there are
relationships or none among the given variables of the study
that may contribute to the formulation of principles and
generalization.

Qualitative-descriptive method of research was used in this

study to determine the effects of early relationship in terms of
the academic performance of the students. The researchers
believed that this method is appropriate and suited to collect
data about phenomena under study.

RESEARCH INTSRUMENTS:

The researchers used the internet as a research instrument

in gathering data for analysis presentation and interpretation
of data needed to determine the effects of early relationship in
terms of the academic performance of the students.
DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE:

The data are gathered, analyzed and prepared for

interpretation and presentation which done by the researchers
after the gathering of the information done by the researchers.
CHAPTER IV

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Summary

Gathering all the information, the result was quite

alarming because it seems that early relationship has a huge
impact when it comes to the student’s academic performance. In
contrast, it also brings positive effect to the performance of
the students in their academic performance. Considering the fact
that early relationship brings negative effects to the students
who are involved in this issue, it may become an obstacle for
the student’s academic performance.

Conclusion

The researchers therefore conclude that:

1. Students must have an excess knowledge about early

relationship, for us to know what should be done and what
should not be done and what should be avoided,
2. early relationship can affect a students’ academic
performance by means of taking it as their first priority
more than important things,
3. some are highly affected by early relationship by means of
their mental awareness especially when it talks about the
activities in school, and
4. there is a significant effect of early relationship when it
comes to the students’ academic performance, specifically
on their grades.
Recommendations:

1. For the parents they should be aware about early

relationship, most especially those students that are in a
relationship,
2. For the teachers they should pay their attentions regarding
this issue. They must guide those students,
3. For school administrator they should also discuss this
thing regarding early relationship to all the pupils in
this institution and lastly,
4. For all the students, for this research, they will become
aware about the effects of early relationship in terms of
academic performance of the students, so that they will
have knowledge upon this issue.
