ANALYSIS OF FOOD SITUATION IN AND AROUND THE NIFT CAMPUS

INTRODUCTION
Food is the most vital thing for the survival of human being. It is through food that a human body
absorbed all the vital nutrition. For a student, all the right diets should be given as it helps them to grow
mentally and physically. Diet also has to be moderated according to the need of the students.

Research has shown that students are able to learn better when they’re well nourished, and eating
healthy meals has been linked to higher grades, better memory and alertness, and faster information
processing. One reason for this is that foods that are rich in fiber, protein, and healthy fats such as eggs,
yogurt, apples and oatmeal keep the body feeling full longer, providing enough energy to focus and stay
alert throughout the entire day.

 PROBLEMS RELATED TO FOOD SITUATION :

1. Food infrastructure is not good.

Developing a sustainable food system depends on a strong and supportive infrastructure both the public
and private realms. In NIFT PATNA the transportation of the canteen items are done by private vehicles
of the workers, who work in the NIFT canteen. They buy vegetables and other raw materials from the
street market retailer. The food quantity which they buy from outside is not at all good, it’s like they are
having the food and other things in quantity. What they can do is have a good transportation system
within NIFT and buy the fresh vegetables from the near buy villages, that won’t give much expense also.

2. Menu is not good.

NIFT is a campus where the students of the different state, town and city are come together for
studying. Food is the basic requirement for every student. So for the mess or canteen where e eat food
should have the menu like every person is satisfied to eat the food they are making. But here in NIFT its
looks like the students are not satisfied by the menu they provide.

One reason may be they make food in bulk, where the quality of food is disturbed. And not every person
has the same taste of food what they get in home. Most preferably they should make the menu acc. To
the student choices on what day they want to eat.

Secondly, the menu in the NIFT PATNA canteen does have the basic nutrients requirement of the
students. Like they don’t include fruits daily, the quality of milk is worst, sometimes the sabji tastes like
the hell and many more.

3. Quantity of food is not good.

Truly we can say that the quantity of food is not at all good in this campus. Most of the students are
localities here so most time they do eat the food, but the hostlers are daily facing the same problem
they won’t get good food. By adding a little more effort the canteen workers may can cook the good

food but they just prepare the food what its take. By the quality of the food many student waste the
food by throwing in waste just because its quality is not be eaten. So this also make the cause of the
food wastage, which is the major issue over here in Patna.

4. Preferences of food are different to different people.

As I say before people have right to choose the food what they want to eat. It’s a great decision we
students have chance to select the menu according to our mutual choice. But the canteen authority
doesn’t give the fair chance to the students to choose. Here people are from different cities and states
and it’s very obvious that their choice of food selection would be different that’s also make an issue for
the food makers to cook different food for all students.

All they can do is making a menu where every person would take interest to eat different type of the
food different states. So it’s also give hope to students that there will be something different in the
menu and give a try to taste it.

5. Sanitation problems.

Food safety is the assurance that food will not cause harm to the consumer when it is prepared and/or
eaten according to its intended use. Foodborne diseases are widespread throughout the world. The
process by which a foodborne disease spreads begins with the features of the disease, contaminating
the food, which in turn threatens both individual and public health by means of the foods. Healthy what
can be termed as safe food, is food that has not lost its nutritional value, that is clean, in physical,
chemical and microbiological terms and that is not stale. The factors causing the contamination of the
food may threaten the safe consumption of it and thereby make the foods harmful to human health. For
this reason, it is necessary to utilize various resources to prevent the food from being contaminated in
all stages of the food chain, from harvest to consumption.

 PLACE FROM WHERE YOU GET THE FOOD


Most of the students which are hostilities are getting their food from canteen and some of the students
who live in flat are generally make by their own or sometimes they eat food in canteen or order online.
And a fraction of the students are coming from the home they eat in home.

Like sometimes when we are not in the mood of eating canteen food, as menu of someday is not good
or taste is not good we preferably made by ourselves. Or order from online service like swiggy, zomato
etc.

 MY OWN EXPERIENCE ABOUT FOOD SITUATION

As this is mine first time to be in hostel so I was very excited about food and infrastructure of NIFT
Patna. But as the time passes the food of the canteen become not too good. Just because we are eating
same kind of food throughout year. There is no change in menu of any kind. That’s an situation where
most of the students wants to take stand to change it.

Some day’s food cooked is very good in taste and we praise it. But this thing is happen only sometimes
not every day. To be very frankly I like the menu of the canteen, they make not that much bad .
Hygienic, sanitation, neat and clean surroundings are maintain up to the level. Canteen also provide the
snacks like chocolate, ice cream, chips and sometimes fast food also, which is good advantage like
always we have to walk outside the campus to buy these stuff.

 QUESTION ANSWERE

Student -

I. From online like swiggy, zomato, other restaurants. And most of the time they went out
in restaurant’s.
II. It’s mainly depends on the mood which kind of the food we want to eat. More
preferably fast foods and biryani and sometimes non-veg. It also depends on the place
where we went to eat the food and for what it is famous for.
III. Take food how much you want to eat, as if not to waste much. Left-over food should
give to the poor people or collaborate with some NGO.

Staff-

I. Make at home and eat food.


II. Daal, chapatti, sabji or basic human requirement.
III. Sometimes gets the leftover food from canteen.

Faculty –

I. Homemade food and sometimes went to the restaurant or order online. Yes if we pay
for food we are satisfied.
II. Fast food or whatever wants to eat depends on mood.
III. Make better quality of food so students won’t waste the food and leftover food should
be distributed among poor and needy people.
 CONCLUSION
I. Menu should change within span of 6 months.
II. Canteen workers should make different dustbin one leftover food and for dump plates.
This leftover food could send to nearby farm houses.
III. Food should made by looking on the demographic of the college students.
IV. Food hygienic should also be maintained and canteen staff also gives their best care to the
students.
