Abstract

This five-year plan is designed to showcase the professional developments I would like to attend

in the next five years to better advance my professional career. The professional developments

were chosen in specific areas such as language development, writing, reading, and cultural

advancement for students. The professional developments were retrieved from San Diego offices

or national organization for teaching world languages.

Year Course Description

1 AAPPL Familiarization The AAPPL Familiarization

Workshop – American Workshop is a one-day

4 Spanish Teachers Seminar – This seminar is offered on a

Stanford University: Center one-day basis and it is

for Latin American Studies intended to last all day. The

professional development is

“tailored to the pedagogical

needs of the Heritage Spanish

classroom!” The professional

development is five days in

total and guest organizations

will be present to help

teachers improve their

pedagogy. The participants

will also develop lesson plans

that serve Heritage Spanish

classrooms. The participants

will also be able to

collaborate with coaches to

help them develop their

lessons. The professional

development is designed to

help teachers to reach

culturally responsible

pedagogy while also

maintaining student

motivation. All the content

developed is designed to

match CCSS and ACTFL

World Readiness Standards

for Learning Languages.

Teachers receive professional

development credit. Students

receive university credit if

they attend this seminar.

5 Latinx Education Summit – The Latinx Education

San Diego County Office of Summit was created with the

Education intended to reduce the

achievement gap for Latino

students and enhance

educational opportunities for

the youth. The Summit is

designed to “raise community

leadership and social

consciousness in working to

provide equity in education.”

This summit is designed for

the advancement of Latinx

students, but also Latinx

classrooms and cultural

knowledge. After completing

this course participants

receive Professional

Development credit.
