Dear Ms Vint:
I am more than happy to answer your questions about the Shitty First Drafts by Anne Lamott
from Bird by Bird.

1. My process for writing a letter is to try to write as much as possible with a little attention
to detail, I ignore punctuation and misspelt words. I then edit the entire document in
MLA and check for any errors I may have then I correct them.

2. I strongly advise revising for any form of writing you may be doing, because it gives you
a chance to make your writing clear concise and void of errors. I actively revise while
I’m typing for my first draft but I ignore misspelled words and grammatical errors.
“Down-drafts” help because you just get all your ideas out without having to think about
it too much which can be helpful for people who struggle with getting started. The “Up
Draft” is helpful because once you have all your ideas out (which is the hardest part) you
clean up all your work so it’s clear and others can understand what you wrote. Finally the
“Dental Draft” is vital because this is the draft where you check every single detail so that
there isn’t any errors in your work. This works personally for me but instead of 3 drafts I
have 2. Although this technique makes me reconsider revising once because there still
may be errors, so checking once more should be more helpful.

3. Receiving constructive feedback is helpful but at the same time it is can be very
frustrating. The stressful part is there may be a difference in style between me and
whoever is giving me feedback because I may like to write one way as opposed
to whomever is critiquing my work .On another note, constructive criticism can help you
to see what areas you may be lacking and help improve them. Overall I have no problem
with constructive criticism because the pros outweigh the cons.

In conclusion the writing process can be frustrating but following Anne Lamott method of doing
3 drafts your "down draft," "up draft," and "dental draft “ can make the process much more
efficient.

Sincerely Yours,
Mikhail Broomes
