Objective: This course provides the basic knowledge, principle of operation and performance of
various components and drives in an automotive transmission system.

Credits Earned: 4 Credits

Course Outcomes: After completion of this course, student will be able to

 Understand the fundamentals, principle of operation and performance of various clutches and
gear boxes.

 Gain the knowledge about various hydrodynamic drives

 Gain the knowledge of operation and performance of various hydrostatic and electric drives

 Design power train system and components for a new vehicle

Pre-requisite of course: Basics of Electrical Engineering, Automobile engineering and Mechanical


engineering

of fluid coupling, fluid coupling with conventional gear boxes. Introduction to
torque converters, comparison between fluid coupling and torque converters,
principles of torque multiplication, types of torque converters

4 Hydrostatic Drive 8
Introduction to hydrostatic drives, Working principle and types of hydro static
drives, Comparison of hydrostatic drive with hydro dynamic drive, Construction and
